And not only can humans cope with anything, they manage to achieve happiness in an astounding number of cases. Unrealistic? No, humans can be successful and happy. What genre does she belong to? I'm tempted to say science fiction, since I haven't really run into any magic or supernaturalism in her books (unless you count telepathy: she treats it like futuristic science). Anne McCaffrey is not only a great science fiction, fantasy, and romance author, but she is also a wonderfully prolific one, and has thus blessed the world with a variety of novels, novellas, and short stories set into her imaginative and intriguing worlds. This site is devoted to her many creations, providing basic details of all her works, and will eventually include more in-depth descriptions of worlds, species, and characters, along with details of various book editions. This site should be a resource for new readers, longtime fans, and McCaffrey book collectors. The committee cited her books Dragonflight, The Ship Who Sang, Dragonquest Dragonsong Dragonsinger White Dragon , and Dragondrums McCaffrey was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 1, 1926. During the first year of her marriage, she began to write science fiction. In 1970, she and her three children moved to Ireland. McCaffrey says that she is “opinionated, asocial, extroverted, and impossible.” She has learned to be “proud of being different.” But she adds, “It isn’t easy! It’s lonely until you realize that you have inner resources that those of the herd mentality cannot enjoy. That’s where the mind learns the freedom to think science-fictiony things, and where early lessons of tenacity, pure bullheadedness, can make a difference. Most people prefer to be accepted.
