From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation search Sir Thomas Malory (c. March 14 ) was the author or compiler of Le Morte d'Arthur . The antiquary John Leland (1506–1552) believed him to be Welsh , but most modern scholarship assumes that he was Sir Thomas Malory of Newbold Revel in Warwickshire . The surname appears in various spellings, including Maillorie Mallory Mallery , and Maleore . The name comes from the Old French adjective male¼r© (from Latin male auguratus ) meaning ill-omened or unfortunate Few facts are certain in Malory's history. He was probably born sometime around 1405 (though some scholars have suggested an earlier date). He died in March of 1471, less than two years after completing his lengthy book. Twice elected to a seat in Parliament , he also accrued an long list of criminal charges during the 1450s, including burglary, rape , sheep stealing, and attempting to ambush the Duke of Buckingham . He escaped from jail on two occasions, once by fighting his way out with a variety of weapons and by swimming a moat. Malory was imprisoned at several locations in London , but he was occasionally out on bail. He was never brought to trial for the charges that had been levelled against him. In the 1460s he was at least once pardoned by King

    Interview with author Tamara Thorne
Remember the thrill of swapping ghost stories around a campfire when you were ten years old? Each of the three volumes of The Sorority begins with a flashback to summer camp, setting the tone perfectly for the rest of the books. As every ten-year-old around a campfire knows, the reason you tell scary stories is that it's fun. Too many of today's horror writers are so concerned with being stylish that they forget to have fun. Tamara Thorne never forgets, and as a result The Sorority is a whole lot of fun to read. The Sorority is a trilogy of horror novels, or more accurately one long novel published as a serial, following four students at California's Greenbriar University who have pledged a sorority with some very dark secrets. The four women are the title characters Eve, Merilynn, and Samantha, and their mutual friend Kendra. Eve, Merilynn, and Samantha first met at the cheerleading camp near the university, where some very spooky things occurred. (Do cheerleading camps for ten-year-olds really exist? If they do, I hope my daughter doesn't find out.) Although they hadn't seen each other for the eight years since, they are soon drawn together by their powerful shared experiences. Each of them has a turn as the central character of one volume of

But behind the façade of female bonding lies something far more sinister a dangerously secret world of dark magic, unimaginable sin, sexual depravity, and murder...a place where evil not only exists, it thrives...and the cost of membership may be Eve’s very soul.... Not Every Dream Is Sweet

Her psychic gifts tell her there's a tremendous darkness at work inside the shadowy walls of her sorority house a feeling that intensifies when Malory Thomas invites her to become one with the Fata Morgana. Now, drawn into the ever-tightening, unnatural circle of its sisterhood, Merilynn's dreams grow more alarming night by night, showing maddening glimpses of an evil, timeless bond stretching back through centuries of blood, sacrifice, and sexual magic. And soon Merilynn wonders whether this is a vision of the past or a warning of bad things to come . . .

SIR THOMAS MALORY (1420-1471) Sir Thomas Malory was the author of the most famous work of Arthurian literature, "Le Morte D'Arthur" . This literary masterpiece was made all the more remarkable because it was written by a layman living in Medieval England. Clearly not a professional writer, Sir Thomas' composition grows in power throughout its length, while his style remains simple and informal, probably much like his own speech. He saw his romances as the chronicles of an historical Arthur perhaps with a moralistic slant. They certainly show off the religious and chivalric ideas of the age which Sir Thomas must surely have shared. Little is known of the author of "Le Morte D'Arthur" and his specific identity has been much disputed. He was obviously an educated man who could read both English and French, the languages of his sources. His own writings reveal that he was a knight-prisoner around the year 1470 when he completed his literary tour de force. This points to him being the Sir Thomas Malory who was a probable Lancastrian conspirator in Cook's plot, excluded from the 1468 general pardon. Despite a notorious reputation for violent crime which conflicts considerably with the apparent chivalric values of the author of "Le Morte D'Arthur"

By 1441 he had been knighted, and had developed a growing interest in politics. In 1445 he became MP for his county and over the next few years developed a startling talent for lawlessness.
