Image 's Glen Workshop Featured on Public Television Image and the Glen Workshop are featured on a new broadcast of Religion and Ethics Newsweekly , a national public television program produced by WNET Television in New York. The segment was recorded at our recent Glen Workshop, which was centered on the theme—“God of the Desert: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam through the Prism of Art.” Featuring speakers from all three traditions, this year's Glen evoked intense discussion and, for many, new horizons. Its purpose was to challenge Christian artists to discover how beauty and art might enable us to better understand the other religious traditions that trace their lineage back to Abraham. The Religion and Ethics Newsweekly crew, led by senior correspondent (and poet) Judy Valente, filmed extensively in workshops and plenary sessions over a two-day period. At a time when ideological politics and celebrity dysfunctionality dominate the airwaves, we're proud that a national television program sees Image 's mission and programs as newsworthy.

I am often inspired by the fact that Denise Levertov sent her poems to T.S. Eliot, when she was 12, and that he wrote back and thought she showed great promise which, of course, she realized (click the photo for a sharper pop-up version). I think the poem of hers that I love most of all is " The Metier of Blossoming March 01, 2005 in ART Permalink

Photo courtesy of Brenda Knight Denise Levertov: Biography Denise Levertov is one of the most beloved, critically acclaimed and highly awarded poets in the English language (Knight 205). Her poetry is very prolific because it has gone through many stages from being New Romantic, feminist, avant-garde, confessional, too humanitarian and showing concern with social issues during the Beat era. Born in 1923, in Essex, England, Denise Levertov decided to be a poet at age 5. She was home schooled by her parents, and her father was an Anglican priest. Her parents provided her with an excellent education; “Levertov’s upbringing in a nurturing home immersed in writing and many different languages was an ideal beginning for a poet” (Knight 207). At age twelve, she sent some of her poems to T.S Eliot, and he wrote back two pages of “excellent advice” for the talented, young poet. She published her first poem when she was sixteen (Brooker xiii).
Denise spent three years as a nurse serving in World War II. In 1946, she published her first book of poetry

    Denise Levertov
Biography Born in England, Denise Levertov moved to the United States in 1947 with her American husband and later lived in Mexico for three years. She felt that her move to America helped her to develop as a poet, and she was particularly influenced by William Carlos Williams's work with organic poetic form, or form that reflected the poet's relationship to his subject. Levertov's poetry was also informed by European authors such as the German poet Rilke and the Jewish theologian and philosopher Martin Huber. Her eclectic interests encouraged an equally diverse poetry: Levertov wrote in both plain and descriptive language and communicated with both clarity and mystery, leading one critic to describe her work as "magical realism." Following the Vietnam War, Levertov often focused on the increasingly unstable American political climate but also composed an intimate, lyrical sequence about her sister Olga. At the time of her death, she was professor of English at Stanford University. Levertov published eighteen books of poems, including The Double Image O Taste and See Footprints Breathing the Water (1987), and
