Krátko potom básnikov otec odišiel na majetok Kropotovo v Tulskej gubernii a syna zanecháva na staros a výchovu testinej, ktorá chcela zanecha arsenievovský majetok vnukovi len s podmienkou, že až do dospelosti ostane u nej.
