King William Historic District
The King William Historic District provides a charming introduction to San Antonio's past. Located south of downtown San Antonio on the east side of the San Antonio River, the King William Historic District covers a 25-square-block area that was once farmland belonging to the Mission San Antonio de Valero, better known as The Alamo. By the latter half of the 19th century, the King William Historic District had grown into a fashionable neighborhood popular with German immigrants. King William Street was originally named for Kaiser Wilhelm I of Prussia. Although the King William Area suffered a decline over a period of several decades in the 20th century, the historical significance of the neighborhood was eventually recognized. In 1967, it achieved the distinction of becoming Texas' first Historic Neighborhood District. Today, visitors to the Alamo City are invited to tour the tree-lined streets of the King William Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The restored buildings of the King William Area feature a variety of architectural styles, such as Greek Revival, Victorian and Italianate. Most of the buildings in the King William Area remain in private hands; however, two are open to the public: The Guenther House and the Edward Steves Homestead. Built in 1860 for the founder of the Pioneer Flour Mills, The Guenther House features a restaurant, store and museum. The Steves Homestead is a historic home museum dating back to the 1870s. It is owned by the San Antonio Conservation Society, which offers a brochure describing a self-guided walking tour of the King William Area.

The King William College Quiz, apparently now my only FPP in a year (since the last quiz), hopefully as hard as ever, but unlikely to reward my brand of laziness. Merry Christmas! See previous posts for laying out answers, I'll post the Guardians' answer sheet in January.

Yeah, just a side note: anyone who uses Google on this is a filthy dirty cheater. It's a general knowledge quiz, not a Googling quiz, dammit! posted by matthewr at 4:04 PM on December 24 This is fantastic(ally difficult)! Settled by German immigrants, the district represents their achievements as they prospered and built opulent homes and mansions. Among the homes, several are notable for their architectural style. They include the Ike West House , a 2-story Victorian with curved porches and iron crestings on the roof; the Wulfe House , a pink stucco residence built in 1873; and the Sartor House , an outstanding example of a typical San Antonio Victorian. Three of the best examples of mansions within the district are the Polk Mansion , built in the Renaissance style; the Groos House , a Victorian mansion with an unusual cupola; and the Steves Homestead , built in 1880 and modeled after a French Renaissance mansion. One of the only houses within the district not built by German immigrants is the

One day prior to the deadline, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to not join a fall pooled-bond program during a special called meeting after having tabled action on the decision twice in the past two months. The board had previously stated it believed its best option for financing the real property for the King William Reservoir project to lease to Newport News was through a pooled revenue bond, which would include $10 million this fall and $10 million some time next year. Newport News has worked to acquire pieces of the 3,000 acres in over 100 parcels of land needed for the King William Reservoir pool on and off for the past few years. The city acquired 10 parcels in 1999, but had to put the process on hold because of permitting issues. The Board of Supervisors was asked to fund the purchase of the property based on the King William Reservoir Project Development Agreement (PDA) signed on November 13, 1990. The previous board that signed 17 years ago obligated future boards to live up to the terms of the agreement.

    Welcome
Hello and a warm welcome to Trollslayer, the official Bill King website.
For those of you who don't know, Bill is an author and games designer, probably best known as the creator of the most (or should that be, least?) successful Trollslayer in the history of the Warhammer Universe, Gotrek Gurnisson. Currently Bill is taking a break from his Black Library work to concentrate on his new non-GW Terrarch trilogy, which has sold in German, Czech and Spanish so far.
Gotrek and his poet-companion, Felix Jaeger are the central characters in a series of ' Slayer ' novels, published by the Games Workshop literary wing, the Black Library and the newest one, Giantslayer is out now. It involves a trip to Albion, an encounter with a certain High Elf Arch-mage called Teclis and an ancient artefact of the fabled Old Ones . And, oh yes, there may also be some Giant-slayage in there somewhere too...

William , the third son of George III , was born at Buckingham Palace
Like his brother George IV , William rebelled against his father's strict discipline. He lived with his mistress, the actress Dorothy Jordon, who bore him ten children. William also against his father's political views. Whereas George III preferred the Tories , William was a Whig , and at once time even considered becoming a Member of Parliament. In the House of Lords the Duke of Clarence supported Catholic Emancipation and showed signs he favoured parliamentary reform.
After the death of George IV's daughter, Princess Charlotte, in 1818, there was a royal scramble to marry an heir to the throne. Soon after Charlotte's death, William married Adelaide, eldest daughter of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg. The couple had two daughters but they both died in infancy.
When his brother, George IV , died in 1830, the Duke of Clarence became king. Like his father and brother, William IV was prone to strange behaviour. On the day he became king he raced through London in an open carriage, frequently removing his hat and bowing to his new subjects. Every so often he stopped and offered people a lift in his royal carriage. His habit of spitting in public also helped to obtain for him a reputation as an eccentric.
At first William IV was very popular. The people were pleased when he announced that he would attempt to keep royal spending to a minimum. People became convinced that he meant what he said when it was discovered that William's coronation only cost a tenth of the expense incurred by George IV's ceremony in 1821. In November 1830
