Details of new and recent titles are on this page and page 2. Poems from some of our recent titles appear on pages 3, 4, 5 and 6. Non-poetry titles are 7, 8 and 9. The remaining pages are self-explanatory. Use the page titles above to navigate around the site. NEW FICTION Mrs. Valley's War is a collection of utterly unique stories amusing, sad, rather riqué, surrealist, historical. It is the first translation in English of the "Shelter Stories" of Feyyaz Kayacan Fergar, written in London after the VI flying bomb (or "doodle bug") raids on South London. Feyyaz was then a news translator in the BBC Turkish Section, of which he was later its head. He sent the stories to a news magazine in Istanbul and in 1963 they were awarded the Turkish Language Academy Prize. The critic Bedri Rahman has written “I got hold of some pictures of Henry Moore (the Shelter Sketchbooks) and weighed them against these stories (Mrs Valley’s War) and the stories weighed heavier!”. The translation by Ruth Christie and Selçuk Berilgen has been assisted by a grant from the TEDA Project of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

In contrast, Sadeq Hedayat
In the early short stories of Bozorg `Alavi Samad Behrangi (q.v.; 1939-68), and other writers of the left in the next generation.
`Alavi's interest in lyrical and erotic themes is another distinctive trait of his writings, which sets his fiction apart from the works of Hedayat and from the writers of the next generation such as Jalal AI-e Ahmad (1923-69, q.v.) and Gholam-Hosayn Sa`edi (1935-85).`Alavi displays a remarkable talent for creating vivid female characters. The women in his stories are neither sanctified nor reviled, as often happens in the works of other Persian writers. For example, the heroines of sentimental and romantic authors like Mohammad Hejazi (1899-77) and 'Ali Dagn (1896-1981) often present a one-dimensional persona as fickle and treacherous coquettes. Modernists like Hedayat and Sadeq Chubak
Period of Growth and Development

Jalal AI-e Ahmad is among the proponents of new political and cultural ideas whose influence and impact straddle both the first and the second periods in the history of modern Persian fiction. His writings show an awareness of the works of Franz Fanon and the new generation of third-world writers concerned with the problems of cultural domination by colonial powers. AI-e Ahmad, Behazin, Tonekaboni, and Behrangi can all be described as engage writers because most of their stories are built around a central ideological tenet or "thesis" and illustrate the authors' political views and leanings. The events of their plot-lines are usually recounted in the simplest and most accessible terms, without any ambiguities or stylistic embellishments. Although each author expounds a different set of "theses," their writings share a strong leftist tendency for relentless social criticism and apreoccupation with the political, social, or ideological message of their stories.

The sequence of Gospel readings is meant to lead people to a deeper knowledge of Christ and a stronger faith in him.
Other readings from the New Testament and the Old Testament are also offered allowing a large variety of passages of the Bible to be read.
This is meant to help combat the decline in biblical literacy and recover a liturgical way to lead followers of Christ through his birth, baptism, ministry, death and resurrection. Accompanying Spirit. Gospel Reading New Testament Reading Acts 10: 34 - 43 Old Testament Reading Isaiah 42: 1-9
Read the Bible in 3 years. Advent: Patience and Promise. New Testament Reading James 5: 7 - 10 Old Testament Reading Gospel Reading Advent: Preparation and Expectation. Old Testament Reading Isaiah 11: 1-10
Gospel Reading Matthew 3: 1-12
Christ The King Old Testament: Jeremiah 23: 1-6
New Testament: Colossians 1: 11-20
Very little is known about the precise settings of this letter which contains one of the greatest of all statements about the cosmic Lord of life. The apostle calls to mind early Christian experience, of the sharing in the inheritance of the saints, of release from the powers of darkness in the realm of evil, of the present experience of forgiveness and redemption, the moral transformation they know in Christ. Verses 15-20 may well be an early confessional hymn. It celebrates Christ's existence before all other creatures, especially the elemental forces and spiritual beings.

She wrote her debut book, a collection of poems named " Minas Gift " (Armanghane Mina), at the age of 18. Thereafter she worked as a journalist for several well known Iranian magazines, for example Keyhan. Khajoo's Pieces of Poems in Persian
Kamal-ad-Din Khajoo of Kerman (kermani),a brilliant poet, lived in the thirteenth Century A.D. and was a contemporary of Hafez. He was influenced by other poets such as Sana'i, Attar, Mowlavi, and Sa'di. In addition to a collection of Ghazals (lyrical poems), he wrote five narrative poems (stories in verse), similar to Nezami's Khamse, of which "Homay and Homayoon" is the most famous. Khajoo's tomb is located in Shiraz.
Hunting the Hunter Reason is a bird from our nest; Galaxies are some dust risen from our doorstep. The world-illuminating sun, the sovereign of the East, Is an ornamental image on the ceiling of our hall of mirrors. The blood you see in the eye of the horizon at sunset Is the sips of our nocturnal wine. What we hunt is no one but the hunter; Our trap is the same as our bait. Our arrow pierces through the armour of the firmament, For our target is the heart of the universe. No charm can lure us away from the path Since the two worlds are full of our fascinating tale. Though with the people of the time we are not happy

by Farshid Kazemi The Splendour of Ridwan has appeared again in our midst.
Two Suns arose and a new Dawn appeared in our midst. The Songsters of love have raised their mournful songs,
For that Crimson Rose has bloomed in our midst. The Jacob of the heart has at last become seeing,
For the Joseph of the soul appeared in our midst. The Moses of being burned the sandals of self and passion,
Once the Glory in the Sianitic Flame appeared in our midst. The Day of Resurrection and renewal appeared,
Once the Messianic breath wafted in our midst. The Cup-bearer with cup, the Minstrel with lute;
The festival of drunks appeared in our midst. The black-eyed Damsel, the Huri of paradise,
The Celestial Garden appeared in our midst. The bread from heaven, the wine and the feast,
Once again the heavenly table is spread in our midst.

Dr. Yamini Sharif was the principle and founder of the elementary school I went to in Tehran, called "Raveshe-No" (New Method). It was one of the most, if not the most progressive school of the day. The following is reproduced with gratitude from http://www.geocities.com/zimbbo/SharifKianush.htm#_ftn11

I fell to the Ground (Oftadam Zamin)
From up I fell down to the ground
my face became scraped and bloody
I just laughed again and again
my mum said sweet child (from Songs of Angels, 1325/1946) The next two poems are for children at the end of elementary and in guidance (10-14yrs): Harvest Time (Hengam-e Deru) get up reaper get up with jumping feet See how the harvest has become golden God has given us help from each seed that we planted the earth has given a hundred grains We were all fully occupied whether it was easy or hard so that we could get back quickly to fill the barn with produce.[18]
