He was also president of the LDS Eastern States Mission. By his own count, he had two religions, Mormonism and the Democratic Party, and he alternately praised and criticized both. As one who was intimately acquainted with every major religious and political figure in Utah and elsewhere over six decadesand as the father of a future LDS apostlehe mustered surprisingly profound and entertaining insights in his memoirs. Par of his prominence was due to his aristocratic flair. Apostle Matthew Cowley admitted that he "always had to take another look when [he] passed Brother James H. Moyle on the street." Nor was this large-framed, gray-haired statesman one to mince words. It is the raw edge to his comments that makes his autobiography so memorable. This former political kingpen's life is also recounted in LDS church president Gordon B. Hinckley's James Henry Moyle: The Story of a Distinguished American and Honored Churchman , who, by his own account, refers to Moyle as a colorful, highly opinionated, uncensored voice, who has a unique value.

James Henry Leigh Hunt
English essayist, journalist and poet. His poem The Story of Rimini (1816) was influential on the second generation of Romantic poets, particularly Keats. Other well-known poems include Captain Sword and Captain Pen (1835) and the much-anthologised Abou Ben Adhem (1825) and Jenny Kissed Me (1825). An edition of Hunt's Poetical Works was published in 1838. Most of his prose appeared in the form of essays in his own journals. Imagination and Fancy (1844) is his most important longer work in prose, in which he compares the arts of painting and poetry.

It is signed but undated. On September 21, 1944, Senator Alben W. Barkley of Kentucky, Senate majority leader and chairman of the Joint Committee on the Library, introduced a resolution authorizing acceptance of the Webster portrait as a gift from Lester Martin, a prominent textile industrialist and philanthropist in New York City. The resolution was adopted by unanimous consent. Wright, who maintained a studio at 835 Broadway, was a popular 19th-century New York artist specializing in portraiture, still lifes, and landscapes. Between 1842 and 1860 he exhibited in New York City at the National Academy of Design and at the American Art Union. Other Wright portraits include prominent mid-19th-century Americans, among them General Winfield Scott and Matthew Vassar, founder of Vassar College.

His father, Henry James Sr. was one of the best-known intellectuals in mid-nineteenth-century America. In his youth James traveled back and forth between Europe and America. He studied with tutors in Geneva, London, Paris, Bologna and Bonn. At the age of 19 he briefly attended Harvard Law School, but preferred reading literature to studying law. James published his first short story, "A Tragedy of Errors" two years later, and devoted himself to literature. In 1866-69 and 1871-72 he was a contributor to the Nation and Atlantic Monthly From an early age James had read the classics of English, American, French and German literature and Russian classics in translation. • NEW: The Henry James E-Journal #12: "Cityscapes - A re-reading of Henry James' The Ambassadors" - Dr. Biljana Dojcinovic Nesic of the University of Belgrade traces with rich detail the relationship between the inner and outer worlds of Strether, the way scenery is turned into the site of a cityscape . Cityscapes are the interfaces "of a live interchange between the heroes and the environment." Cityscapes have "unstable boundaries," lessons in "the eroticism of the unseen," and "multidimensionality." For Strether, sensing what he does not see beneath Marie de Vionnet's black sleeves, "the gold, the clink, the bracelets and bangles are distant sounds of Babylon, East, otherness," shimmering in the consciousnessa cityscape.

Flannery's article situates Mrs. Luna of The Bostonians in a number of contexts, most notably the novel's critical reception, the relationship between sibling love and queer subjectivity in contemporary theory and narratives of the lost, returned and over-embodied sibling in US culture. It argues that sibling love, jealousy and insight are utterly crucial to James's writing and protection of lesbian desire. Mitchell, Lee Clark, 1947-

      Abstract:
James everywhere explores the implications of possession and possessions, of treating others as things even as things are granted sovereign value. Yet The Spoils of Poynton holds a special place in his career as a novel that pursues "possession" so persistently as to rethink all the word's implicationslegal, spiritual, psychological, sexualeven as its meaning seems increasingly obscure in conventional terms. Anticipating the moral conundrums of the late novels, James for the first time elaborates an ethos that commends our treatment of others as things, valuing our mutual possession of each other as a necessary, even beneficent, process. This essay explores the novel's elusive central ethical issue: how do we possess one another, and what might a marriage of equals require from one to preclude being simply possessed?

James, Henry (1843-1916)
page: Though closeted, Henry James had a number of intimate relations with young men, and his sexual orientation imbued his fiction. James was born in New York City, on April 15, 1843. He belonged to a prominent American family, whose cultural milieu consisted of the intelligentsia of New England, and whose scholarly and social connections extended throughout Europe. His father, Henry James, Sr., was a noted Swedenborgian philosopher and man of letters, a friend of Ralph Waldo Emerson and Thomas Carlyle. Sponsor Message.
Because Henry Sr. favored frequent changes of scenery, the James children spent their childhood divided between the United States and Europe, and were educated on both continents. The family returned to New England before war broke out between the states, and while helping to extinguish a fire in Newport, Henry Jr. sustained what he later called "an obscure hurt." This injury became the source of much biographical and critical speculation about the cause of the author's lack of sexual interest in women. Henry's eldest brother, William, who went on to become an acclaimed philosopher and psychologist, showed early artistic and academic promise. Henry Jr. attempted to define a space for himself distinct from both his brother and his father. In the early 1860s, Henry began to write short stories and reviews for the

THE PATEREK MANUAL For Bicycle Framebuilders - THIRD EDITION Henry James Publishes and Distributes this "How-To" book on custom bicycle frame building by Framebuilder and author Tim Paterek.
A bicycle is a surprisingly complex and subtle machine. The range of things people want to use a bike for far exceeds what any maker can possibly sell from stock. Our customers, Custom Frame Builders , make fine custom frames that fit the rider perfectly Stock bicycles come in a range of basic sizes, but that's about it. Stock frames do not allow for the wide range of proportions the human body comes in. Stock frames don't fine tune the tubing diameter and wall thicknesses to optimize the feel of the frame for the kind of riding you want to do. Check out an incomplete list of reasons why people ride bicycles . Lots of these reasons don't require a custom bike, just a reliable and practical one. When miles ridden, time spent riding, speed, and terrain get more demanding, and your interest in bicycling itself increases, custom bikes with investment cast lugs start making sense. Even if you have average body dimensions, factors like body proportions, strength, weight, and riding style, become important factors. Henry James is your source for top quality American made lugs, jigs, and tubing for custom bicycle frames. This Henry James web site is intended to help your bicycling activities produce the results you are looking for by getting you on the right bike for you.
