He was also an American author in numerous pulp fiction genres as well as a prolific writer of works on Scientology Hubbard was a highly controversial public figure during his lifetime. Many details of his life remain disputed, with official and unofficial biographies depicting Hubbard in radically different ways. Official Scientology biographies present him in hagiographic terms as "larger than life, attracted to people, liked by people, dynamic, charismatic and immensely capable in two dozen fields." In contrast, unofficial biographies (some of which are by former Scientologists) as well as reports in the press paint a much less flattering picture which often contradicts official Church accounts.

"I would say that 99 per cent of what my father has written about his own life is false." - L. Ron Hubbard Jr. The biography of L. Ron Hubbard shows a man who was incapable of telling the truth: a pathological liar who hated and despise humanity; a sociopath caught between the conflicting desires to earn the admiration of humanity, and his desire to inflict great pain and misery upon those who ignored him and refused him his self-perceived due measure of honor and reverie (which was and is 99.999% of his fellow human beings). As such, Mister Hubbard was constantly trying to purchase glory and recognition when he had the funds to make the attempt, or stole that recognition by lying and deceiving when money wasn't enough. Mister Hubbard was driven by greed and megalomania. He was a devout racist who wrote in praise of South African Apartheid; he was a crazed misogynist who insisted women were inferior intellectually- later in life his venereal disease (caught from a whore while on leave from the Navy) instilled within him a fear and dread of womankind that expressed itself in insanity and impotency.

L. Ron Hubbard, as one of this century’s most prolific and influential authors of fiction, left us a significant collection of verse. After all, as a leading light of popular literature through the 1930s, he was nothing if not versatile. Read more about L. Ron Hubbard and his accomplishments as a poet in this web site. Click here to enter. In 1982, through the course of a larger effort to assemble all existing L. Ron Hubbards manuscripts, a collection of some forty poems was discovered. Although the majority date from the 1930s, both earlier and later works suggested poetry had been a continuous pursuit, and, in fact, a subsequent search through L. Ron Hubbard’s papers revealed poems from all phases of his life: youth in Montana, years of far-flung exploration, nationally acclaimed author of popular fiction, and founder of Dianetics and Scientology. To say that L. Ron Hubbard was a remarkable man seems somehow incomplete. Mr. Hubbard left an extraordinary legacy: an immense body of wisdom that leads man to spiritual freedom; the fastest-growing religion in the world today, Scientology. As the founder of the Scientology religion L. Ron Hubbard has described his philosophy in more than 5,000 writings, including dozens of books, and in 3,000 tape-recorded lectures of Dianetics and Scientology. Those who regularly employ his teachings to improve themselves and help their fellows come from all walks of life, while Scientology missions and churches have been established on six continents. 8. Applied Scholastics - L. Ron Hubbard And Education
In the 1920s, L. ron hubbard’s concern for education began when he realized the “influence of a mislearned word on a life.” At that time, he was teaching

He stressed two significant points: first, he wished his students to appreciate the scope of the world beyond their shores; and second, he wanted them to understand how literacy held the key to participation in that world. To convey the foreign concept of a railroad train to children, who had no experience of mechanical transportation, he hitched three or four ox carts together. The theory underlying this successful experiment would prove vital to his later work. He had hit right at the heart of the learning process, how information is best assimilated-and what accounts for the bored and exasperated student. In 1938, Mr. Hubbard outlined fundamental principles of education, from his views on the degrading examination system to practical procedures to be followed in teaching a foreign language. During the Second World War, he became involved in the direct instruction of military personnel as well as the redrafting of instructional materials. In a preliminary note on his navigational text, he advised, "Failure to learn definitions results in a later inability to understand explanations, which include those definitions. Easily the most important factor in any study is a comprehension of what is meant by certain words."

L. Ron Hubbard
L. Ron Hubbard [March 13, 1911 - January 14, 1986] lived an extraordinary and adventurous life. Although best known as the founder of the Scientology religion, he was also a Master Mariner, Pilot, Photographer, Musician, Author, Explorer, Philosopher and much more besides.
He lived at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead, between 1959 and 1967 during which time he greatly contributed to the local community. He was the East Grinstead Road Safety Committee organiser, an East Grinstead Parade Marshal and he sponsored children's cycling competitions. He was Vice President of the East Grinstead Horticultural Society and carried out revolutionary horticultural experiments at Saint Hill. He was also involved with and contributed to numerous community events and local organizations such as the St Johns Ambulance brigade and the Adeline Genee Theatre to which he was an original donor.
The East Grinstead community has profited enormously from Mr. Hubbard's decision to make East Grinstead the place to further his research on the mind and life. Countless visitors have come from all over the world to study his discoveries here since 1959 when Saint Hill was Mr. Hubbard's home. A brief summary of his life reads as follows:

Our summer of Tom Cruise's madness and Katie Holmes' creepy path toward zombie bridedom has been a useful reminder of how truly strange Scientology is. By now those interested in the Cruise-Holmes saga may be passingly familiar with the church's creation myth, in which an evil, intergalactic warlord named Xenu kidnaps billions of alien life forms, chains them near Earth's volcanoes, and blows them up with nuclear weapons. Strange as Scientology's pseudo-theology may be, though, it's not as entertaining as the life story of the church's founder, L. Ron Hubbard. To hear his disciples tell it, Hubbard, who died in 1986, was the subject of "universal acclaim" and one of the greatest men who ever lived. Not only did he devise the church's founding theory of Dianetics, which promises to free mankind of psychological trauma, he was a source of wisdom about everything from jazz music to nuclear physics. By Saurabh Bhattacharya Starting with Dianetics in the 1950s, science fiction author and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard developed Scientology , which claims to make enlightenment scientifically achievable Could there be a science of enlightenment? Centuries of philosophies spiritual teachers , dogmas and religions later, the only thing that we humans seem to have realized is that enlightenment, or complete freedom if you will, is too much of a personal experience to be achieved systematically by all. Bottomline: you either get enlightened or you don't.

Those materials have further given rise to the only major religion founded in the twentieth century, and so stand as the spiritual cornerstone for several million adherents across all continents. It was additionally through the philosophy of Scientology that L. As the founder of the Scientology religion and the sole author of its Scripture, L. Ron Hubbard is respected by Scientologists throughout the world, and he has no successor. He is remembered not as one to be idolized or worshiped but as a man whose legacy is the religion of Scientology which still lives on. Some understanding of his background serves to illustrate how he came to discover the truths of the Scientology religion.
    EARLY YEARS
Son of United States naval commander Harry Ross and Ledora May Hubbard , L. Ron Hubbard was born March 13, 1911, in Tilden, Nebraska. Frequent travel was the rule rather than the exception for a military family, and shortly thereafter, the Hubbards settled in Helena, Montana. While there, Mr. Hubbard became friendly with the indigenous Blackfeet, and particularly a tribal medicine man, who was ultimately to honor the young Hubbard with the unique status of blood brother.

The Old Man in the Desert He had achieved success beyond his wildest dreams; wealth, fame and the adulation of thousands of devoted adherents. Yet for the last five years of his life, L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, dwelt, a virtual prisoner of his own paranoia, a recluse in self-imposed exile, on a ranch in the desert of Creston, California. Surrounded by a handful of trusted aides, he handed over the running of his multimillion dollar empire to a chosen few. Even his wife was cut off - after she got out of prison after serving a sentence for her part in the notorious Snow White case, she never saw her husband again. In fact, few did. Fearing indictment in the Snow White case, Hubbard fled to the desert in the early 80s, leaving behind his role as de facto controller of the Scientology empire and taking with him only a handful of trusted aides, mostly those now-grown messengers from the Commodore's Messenger Org, who had, in some cases literally, grown up under the Machiavellian tutelage of Hubbard, and became his emissaries to the empire he oversaw. The Vultures Gather Of these former messengers turned executives, the future head of Scientology, David Miscavige, was amongst those angling to take control of the church upon its founder's death. But despite chronic ill health, the founder lived on, leaving Miscavige - and others, including Terri Gamboa, Vicki Aznaran, Lyman Spurlock and Norman Starkey in a state of flux. They controlled the church, for all intents and purposes. But their authority came only through their appointed - some say self-appointed - role as the controllers of LRH's communication with the world. As LRH himself may have written, he who controls the comm controls the game. But events, as we shall see, were spinning out of control for these so-called young rulers of Scientology.
