Those are ways in which he could pursue the matter. 24 Jan 2007 : Column 1422 Access to Inland Waterways 12.33 pm Dr. Desmond Turner (Brighton, Kemptown) (Lab): I beg to move, That leave be given to bring in a Bill to make provision for access by the public for non-motorised boating purposes to the inland waterways of England and Wales; and for connected purposes. The Environment Agency has worked for two years to put voluntary access agreements in place. In October last year, it reported its achievement: 45 miles of access had been negotiated, much of which was already the subject of access agreements and was accepted for canoeing. Two years of negotiation have produced an extra 20 miles of access, much of which is subject to considerable restrictions and complex arrangements. Even the Environment Agency was unable to contact all the riparian owners. When it was unable to gain permission, it assumed a right of access. That sets a precedent and clearly there are some legal connotations.

THE EAST AT WESTMINSTER GP WALK-IN CENTRES - DEBATE WITH BILL RAMMELL AND DR HAMISH MELDRUM INTERVIEW RECORDED FROM TRANSMISSION: BBC TWO DATE: 28.11.99 RHODES: Earlier in the week I caught up with the MP for Harlow, Bill Rammell and Dr Hamish Meldrum from the BMA to ask, are these centre a gimmick or a good use of resources? MELDRUM: Obviously, the GP's committee is supportive of anything that improves services to patients but we do have reservations about how cost effective they'll be in achieving that. RHODES: Reservations, tell me about them? MELDRUM: British general practise has been tried and tested, and well-respected throughout the country and the world for a long period of years. The many reasons for that, but one important aspect is the continuity of care that it gives patients, and the fact that GPs are able to exert this gatekeeper role and protect secondary services. One wonders whether walk-in centres will still be able to achieve that. RHODES: Suspect that going to be one of the inherent problems with the walk-in centres, Bill Rammell, when the patient comes before the nurse as it would be in most cases, the nurse knows nothing of that person's medical history?
