We're also told about Christopher Wren's esoteric street-plan for London after the Great Fire, and the secret significance of Washington DC. But most of the book follows the stream of heterodox religious beliefs, from early Christianity to the 18th century. Graham Hancock - Fingerprints of the Gods
PDF Ebbok
"In Fingerprints of the Gods Graham Hancock embarks on a worldwide quest to put together the pieces of a vast and mysterious jigsaw-puzzle of mankind's prehistory. In ancient ruins as far apart as Egypt's Great Sphinx, the strange Andean temples at Tiahuanaco and Mexico's awe-inspiring Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, he reveals not only the clear fingerprints of an unknown people who flourished during the last ice age, but also disquieting signs of high intelligence, technological sophistication and details scientific knowledge of the cosmos aeons before any previous known civilisation.
Through the memory-banks of universal myth and legend - which store much of our species' prehistoric records - Hancock uncovers traces of a precise scientific language, encoding the results of thousands of years of accurate astronomical observations. He studies ancient maps, incorporating spherical trigonometry, showing how the earth would have looked 12,000 years ago - and with levels of accuracy not achieved by our own cartographers until the nineteenth century. Finally, he uses the most up-to-date techniques of geology and astronomy to show that the conventionally accepted dating of a number of intriguing archaeological sites around the world cannot possible be correct and that they must be considered far, far older than was previously thought.

Fingerprints of the Gods
by Graham Hancock
Using tools as varied as archaeo-astronomy, geology, and computer analysis of ancient myths, author Graham Hancock presents a compelling case to suggest that the story of mankind is far older than we have previously believed. And as the truth about prehistory and the real meaning of ancient myths and monuments is revealed, it becomes apparent that a warning has been handed down to us: a terrible cataclysm that afflicts the Earth at irregular intervals of time may be about to occur. Now we take a critical look at the work of the maverick historian. Part one of two. by Jason Colavito READ MORE ABOUT THIS IN MY BOOK: THE CULT OF ALIEN GODS The impression we get is of an indirect connection, and perhaps the existence of a third party, whose influence spread to both the Euphrates and the Nile. . . [A] third party whose cultural achievements were passed on independently to Egypt and Mesopotamia would best explain the common features and fundamental differences between the two civilizations.
- Prof. WALTER EMERY University of London
I: The Origins of Hancock's Interest in the Unorthodox
For generations scholars have puzzled at the strange similarities that ancient monuments seem to bear to one another. So great is the temptation to link the temples and tombs of the forgotten past that an entire subgenre of nonfiction has arisen to extol the theory that Mexico and Egypt were part of a great and ancient global design. By 2001, controversial author Graham Hancock had sold millions of books by asking readers to believe the seemingly impossible: that humanity is a "species with amnesia" which has forgotten the greatest episode in its history, the destruction and near-complete effacement of an antediluvian civilization whose tiny, scattered remnants form the fingerprints of the gods.

John Fowles, "A Maggot", Graham Hancock's "Supernatural" and alien contact
I agreed with Jacques Vallee when I read the following in his 1988 book "Dimensions"
Many descriptions of UFO phenomena force us to deal simultaneously with ... the physical (or technical) and the spiritual (or divine) ....
It has been captured in the most complete and most artistic form in John Fowles's extraordinary masterpiece, A Maggot, published in 1986. My only correction is that "A Maggot" first appeared in 1985. A first edition has a special place in my library and my literary sensibilities.
In the paperback edition of "Dimensions" an interview with Vallee has him, in my view at least, stating the obvious:
... one of the greatest living writers in the English language publish(ed) a masterpiece dealing entirely with the problem of alien contact ... What does "Ann the Word" and "A Maggot" have to do with each other? Rather than spoil the journey for those who want to discover both, and by way of haunting invitation, I'll simply pose the Chinese "koan" from

The subject matter is quite far-fetched, but it does make you wonder about things, and he makes quite a few good points in among the idle speculation. He's not really loved by the archeology community, but I think his books are at least worth a read.
They are, so far:
The Sign and the Seal (On the Ark of the Covenent, I have this book, it's in-depth)
Fingerprints of the Gods (On the theory of a civilization we don't know about influencing ancient ones, I also have this one)

The Mars Mystery (Same as above)

On Graham Hancock's Theory
Sci.archaeology USENET postings, circa March 1995
Subject: Ark of the Covenant Redux Date: 22 Mar 95 23:31:11 GMT From: greycat@larry.wyvern.com (Joe Canepa) Newsgroups: sci.archaeology In his book The Sign and The Seal Graham Hancock theorizes that the Ark of the Covenant now resides in Ethiopia. Hancock tracks the Ark from Israel to Egypt, eventually temporally located at the Temple Elephantine at Aswan. From the Temple Elephantine Hancock has the next location as further down the Nile to Meroe. From Meroe he proposes that the Ark was then placed at Axum in Ethiopia, where it remains today. Hancock has the Ark of the Covenant leaving Israel during the reign of Manasseh, as that ruler had introduced an idol into the Temple of Jerusalem. He does not cite a reference to the removal of the Ark but merely implies that it was removed by Manasseh to make room for that ruler's idol. As far as I can remember the Ark, according to Hancock, would have been removed by the priests of the temple to avoid defilement by Manasseh and his idolatry. The Ark would have been transported to as safe distance in a safe location, a extensive jewish community of mercenary soldiers with their own temple on the island Elephantine (the only one outside Israel). Regards

Conspiracy Theory This Question Is Answered: digg_skin = 'compact'; digg_window = 'new'; Who is Graham Hancock? 24 Dec 2006 12:30 Report Graham Hancock is a former journalist who embarked on a new career as an author exploring historical subjects from an unconventional point of view. He has written several best-selling books, including The Sign and the Seal : Quest for the Lost Ark of the Covenant and Fingerprints of the Gods : The Quest Continues, exploring ancient monuments and mysteries. His work is wide-ranging but among its themes are that various ancient monuments in countries all across the world may be linked in some way, and that they embody astronomical knowledge, perhaps representing star maps. Hancock believes that extra-terrestrials may have visited Earth in ages past, giving a helpful hand to the progress of human civilisation or perhaps even creating it in the first place.
Hancock presented his theories in a Channel 4 television series in the UK. The BBC’s Horizon program also covered Hancock’s ideas in a less sympathetic light.
