ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS
And Who IS
Graham Hancock Anyway ?
Following is a very brief snapshot of what you'll find in Graham Hancock's book "Fingerprints of the Gods". It's excellent and I recommend it as a MUST read.

Graham Hancock

If we are willing to accept the current academic consensus regarding the origins of human civilization, then we believe: THAT humanity's first primitive civilization instantly emerged, fully developed, around 3,000 B.C. in Sumer and Egypt. We are therefore also willing to accept that the Egyptians possessed an innate understanding of modern-day mathematics, astronomy, and engineering to construct the great temples and pyramids of Egypt. THAT about 1,500 years later, civilization spontaneously and independently flourished in South America and Mexico. We then believe, too, that like their Egyptian counterparts, these civilizations could construct temples, pyramids, and fortresses with a level of sophistication and precision that would be almost impossible to match 52%could construct temples, pyramids, and fortresses with a level of sophistication and precision that would be almost impossible to match even today.
Graham Hancock , has embarked on a worldwide quest to piece together the vast and fascinating jigsaw puzzle of humanity's mysterious past to uncover the true and even more ancient origins of human civilization. He examines a trail of technological and mythological wonders that runs through the Americas and Egypt - a trail suggesting that a group of highly intelligent people traveled to these lands to leave behind the remarkable legacy of edifices that still stand there today.

Graham Hancock Following in McKenna's Footsteps?
Drugs, art and the aliens who lit our way to civilisation (Once again, I find my own contemplations are not mine alone! ... Thank you, Mr. Hancock
GRAHAM HANCOCK is breathless. He's telling me about his first hallucinogenic trip in the Amazon jungle, and he just can't get the words out fast enough. The former journalist and now bestselling science writer spent five weeks living with indigenous Indian shamans in Peru, where he ingested a sacred plant drug known as ayahuasca We pick up the story just after the shaman began the ritual ceremony by singing the icaros, ancient chants which draw the spirits around the circle. Hancock then took a sip of the drug, which he describes as a "vile-tasting liquid, so strong and bitter-sweet and salty, so dark and concentrated as to be repellent". His muscles involuntarily relax, he closes his eyes and then the visions begin.
"I had a very scary beginning to that trip," he says. "I saw incredible transformations of different animals and beings glowing with light that appeared directly in front of my field of vision. It was a typical scene which many describe as an alien abduction. They were very anthropic, and definitely wanted to communicate with me. It was rather like going to a strange new country, where I had to start learning the rules of communication." Getting deeper into the experience, Hancock took another dose of the drug, but his body couldn't take it. The nausea came on strong and soon he was out in the dark, puking. Before long he was drenched in sweat with only dry heaves left. He sank to the ground and called an end to the trip because he was so afraid. He opened his eyes, and the visions left him. You could conclude from this account - detailed in Hancock's latest book, Supernatural - that Hancock is just another traveller keen to acquaint himself with the customs of new cultures. But there is a little more to this trip than meets the eye.

Stairways to the Stars Skywatching in Three Great Ancient Cultures Several books which appeared in the late years of the twentieth century suggest that we had better discard the idea that we have a relatively complete understanding of human history, or that we have created the very first highly technological civilization our planet has known. Civilizations in the remote past have left behind ample testimony to their remarkable achievements in architecture, engineering, astronomy, and other fields. New finds, and the reinterpretation of existing evidence, are resulting in fresh assessments of ancient peoples and their cultures. (Cf. "Humanity's `Lost Civilization,' " Sunrise , April/May 1997.) Graham Hancock, author of Fingerprints of the Gods , has written an important new book, Heaven's Mirror: Quest for the Lost Civilization . Its main thesis is that evidence exists that anciently there was one civilization spanning many countries that left behind traces of its vast achievements, this testimony being transmitted through millennia of time. Cooperating with Hancock is his wife, Santha Faiia, whose photographs in this book are breathtaking and make visible before our eyes the statements in the text. I can only liken their impact to the illustrations in the rare Napoleon Volumes produced by the French archaeologists and artists invited by Napoleon to accompany his occupying forces to Egypt in the late 1790s. Certainly this latest volume by Graham Hancock is a "must see."

British author Graham Hancock has propelled himself into the center of vigorous debate over the origins of humanity by challenging long-accepted theories on the history of key archaeological monuments around the world. Hancock started his career as a freelance reporter for the Economist, producing books like 'Lords of Poverty: the Power, Prestige, and Corruption of the International Aid Business', but first gained massive notoriety with the 1995 'para-science' publishing phenomenon 'Fingerprints of the Gods'. The book examines similarities between the pyramids in Egypt and Latin American temples, while proposing the possibility of a lost ancient 'Atlantis' civilization in Antarctica as an explanation for their structural unity. In his more recent works, with the assistance of his sometime co-author Robert Bauval, Hancock has reinterpreted Egyptian sources to create a radically new historical timeline, which identifies the monuments at Giza as being far older than previously assumed; he also effectively taps into millennial anxieties by acknowledging the Egyptians' belief in a cycle of world-destroying cataclysms, the next of which, he postulates, may be alarmingly soon.

Posted by Verve on March 18, 2002 at 06:07:55: This an interesting site questioning the various Atlantis theories. It also has really good picture diagrams to support the questioning. What do you people think ? "In 1999 Discovery Channel broadcast a three-part series called Quest for the lost Civilisation. In it Graham Hancock stated that the pyramids, Angkor Vat, Stonehenge, the stones of Carnac, the Nazca lines, temples in Mexico and the statues of Easter Island were all part of an ancient global civilisation of seafarers who were apparently obsessed by astrology. The temples of Angkor Vat (in Cambodia) were said to be built in the shape of the zodiac sign Draco, the pyramids of Gizeh in the shape of Sirius; the Sphinx is supposed to be looking at the sign of Leo. It's all rather vague. Hard to say whether it's nonsense or not. More information can be found in Hancocks books, like Fingerprints of the Gods (Heinemann) and Heaven's Mirror (Penguin Books). Not long after this, the BBC hit back with two episodes of Horizon, in which Atlantis believers were even compared with Nazis! Part 2 was focussed on Hancocks ideas, at least on some of them. The corrosion of the sphinx was said to be caused by salt. The placing of the pyramids was determined by the building site and not by the stars, according to Kate Spence. That the temples of Angkor Vat were built in the shape of the zodiac sign Draco is also untrue, according to E. Mannikka; also there are more than 60 temples and Hancock chose only 10 out of them. Indeed it is not a convincing theory at all"
