Happy fun office relocation time!
I knew this was coming, so I wasn't particularly surprised when this e-mail hit my work inbox about an hour ago:
We just received this information late yesterday. Facilities Management will be terminating our current lease effective January 31, 2008. We will be relocating [to a building that already contains our firm's architecture sector].
That gives me exactly two weeks to sort through my files, clean up my messy office and pack. And then once I move to my new office I'll get to unpack. Except for the fact that at the new building I won't have an office. I'll get to move into a freakin' cubicle. Yeah!
The reolcation itself won't be too far - perhaps just a few miles from our existing location in Greenway Plaza to the new building on the West Loop - but, as everybody who lives in Houston knows, traffic in the Galleria/Post Oak/West Loop area is beyond awful. I figure my commute time is about to double.

Thomas Gray
Thomas Gray is buried in St. Giles's Churchyard, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, England. (See map...ref no. 15) He died at Pembroke Hall, Cambridge and requested to be buried next to his mother. His tomb is below the east window of the Hastings Chapel. The tablet on the wall of the church records that his mother is buried in the vault below. Gray is chiefly remembered for his great poem : Elegy in a Country Churchyard - which is believed to have been set in St. Giles. It is thought that Gray commenced writing this poem in 1742 but didn't complete it until 1750 when he sent it to Horace Walpole in a letter. Verses from the Elegy are inscribed on his monument which was erected in 1799 and stands to the east of the church.

On this day in 1751, Thomas Gray's "Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard" was published. Gray was a reclusive gentleman-poet and he did not write many poems, but this tribute to the humble life brought him immediate fame and the offer of the poet laureateship; it also became the most reprinted poem of the 18th century, one which Thomas Hardy would love and borrow from for his title, "Far From the Madding Crowd." top of page SELECTED WORKS BY THIS AUTHOR Blake's Water-Colours for the Poems of Thomas Gray

Sir Thomas Gray: Scalacronica (1272-1363)
Edited by Andy King
Translated by Andy King

In 1355, Sir Thomas Gray, a Northumbrian knight and constable of Norham castle, was ambushed and captured by the Scots. Imprisoned in Edinburgh castle, he whiled away the hours by writing a chronicle charting the history of Britain from the Creation. The bulk of the work, written in Anglo-Norman French, is based on existing sources. However, for the section from the reign of Edward I onwards - the portion edited here - Gray relied partly on his own memories, and the stories told him by his father [constable of Norham before him], relating their experiences in the Scottish and French wars. The first known historical work to have been written in England by a member of the lay nobility since the Conquest, the Scalacronica provides a unique perspective on the course of English politics in the fourteenth century, and an insight into the worldview of a militarily active member of England's governing class. It is a vital source for all those interested in the history of the period.
The text, with facing-page translation, has been newly edited from the sole surviving manuscript of the

GRAY, THOMAS (1905-1941), stockman, soldier and poet, was born on 14 April 1905 at Onslow, Western Australia, third of seven children of Richard Vickers, also known as Gray, a White, Australian-born labourer, teamster and horse-breaker, and his Aboriginal wife Ida, n©e Harris. After Richard died in 1913, Ida married Ted Payne. In the 1920s members of her family lobbied State politicians for citizenship rights for part-Aborigines. Ida instilled in her children the view that education was the path to social emancipation for Black Australians. Educated at Onslow State School, Tom developed a love of poetry and proved to be a fine athlete. Finding work as a drover, stock-handler and bushman, Gray learned to recite more than one hundred poems and composed his own verse in the saddle. He often inscribed his lines on the blades of disused windmills and jotted them on the sides of water tanks for passers-by to read. The only piece ever published, 'Crosses', was to appear in the

With the establishment media pulling out all the stops to discredit and destroy the RP campaign and his most visible means of support being a bunch of social misfits, the movement needs to adopt a new strategy if we want a Ron Paul in office.
Efforts also need to be directed towards the election of libertarians in lesser offices such as those of federal and state legislators.

Gray, Thomas (1716-1771) Thomas Gray, the best-loved English poet of the eighteenth century, wrote several poems that express the love he felt for other men. Gray was born to a distinctly middle-class family of shop owners, the only surviving child of twelve. His mother was a sweet-tempered woman, who ran a millinery business with her sister; and his father was a violently jealous man who beat his wife and abused her with vile language. Sponsor Message.
He was a lonely bookish boy, and until two of his uncles, who were masters at Eton, arranged for his matriculation there, he had no friends his own age. At Eton, where he went in 1725, he eventually made a few close friends who shared his interest in literature and writing. Chief among these were Horace Walpole, Richard West, and Thomas Ashton. All these boys had literary aspirations, and they dubbed themselves the Quadruple Alliance. Together they read Virgil, wrote poetry, and avoided the athletic field. Their mutual friendships became deeply romantic as the years progressed, and Gray grew to feel love for both the flamboyant and worldly Walpole and the shy and poetic West.

This little coterie was dubbed "the Quadruple Alliance"; its members were studious and literary, and took little part in the amusements of their fellows. In 1734 Gray matriculated at Peterhouse, Cambridge, of which his uncle, Robert Antrobus, had been a fellow. At Cambridge he had once more the companionship of Walpole and Ashton who were at King's, but West went to Christ Church, Oxford. Gray made at this time the firmest and most constant friendship of his life with Thomas Wharton (not the poet Thomas Warton ) of Pembroke College. He was maintained by his mother, and his straitened means were eked out by certain small exhibitions from his college. His conspicuous abilities and known devotion to study perhaps atoned in the eyes of the authorities for his indifference to the regular routine of study; for mathematics in particular he had an aversion which was the one exception to his almost limitless curiosity in other directions. During his first Cambridge period he learned Italian "like any dragon", and made translations from Guarini

GRAY, THOMAS (1716—1771), English poet, the fifth and sole surviving child of Philip and Dorothy Gray, was born in London on the 26th of December 1716. His mother’s maiden name was Antrobus, and in partnership with her sister Mary she kept a millinery shop in Cornhill. This and the house connected with it were the property of Philip Gray, a money-scrivener, who married Dorothy in. 1706 and lived with her in the house, the sisters renting the shop from him and supporting themselves by its profits.
