He thinks that he took out the bad parts but I like the parts he took out. Megano The Princess Bride was never written by S. Morganstern...S. Morganstern does not even existthat's what makes this story a masterpiece...that you get so enveloped in "the Good Parts" version, that you eat into the fact that 400 pages were cut out on Florenese history. Stephen King is not doing Buttercup's Baby either...if you look at his website, he sort of laughs at everyone for buying into that.

William Goldman at the Screenwriting Expo
The Marquis Ballroom of Los Angeles' Marriott Hotel is packed to the rafters, all of its temporary seats filled, with scores more sitting cross-legged on the floor at the back of the hall. We are here for a talk by William Goldman, the double Oscar winning screenwriter and source of perhaps the most quoted line about Hollywood: "Nobody knows anything".
William Goldman's success lies in his accessibility and candour: he is, he insists, one of us. "We're at the same level and we have to deal with idiots," he says. It is a remark that goes down well with the diverse crowd who have come from across America and all over the world, heavy New York accents mingling with those from Germany, Sweden, Britain and even Australia.
He first came to public attention when he received $400,000 for writing the screenplay for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, at the time an unprecedented amount for a writer. He claims he was pilloried by the press who couldn't see why he got such a large amount. Fortunately for Goldman, the 1969 film starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford was a success and won its writer his first Oscar. "It was a fluke," he shrugs simply. "We got lucky." He freely admits to stealing the film's iconic ending where Butch and The Kid evade capture by leaping from a cliff from the 1939

Academy Award-Winner William Goldman to Receive Honorary Degree and Speak with Students Tomorrow By Betty Gabrielli
William Goldman '52 D ECEMBER 3, 1998William Goldman, two-time Academy Award-winning screenwriter and 1952 Oberlin graduate, will return to campus Friday, December 4, to receive an Honorary Doctor of Literature degree. Goldman, who won his first Academy Award in 1970 for his original screenplay Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, was to have received the degree at the annual Honors Day Assembly this past May, but his flight plans had to be cancelled due to inclement weather. College Trustees will bestow the degree at a private noon ceremony. While in Oberlin, Goldman will meet with students interested in screenwriting from 10 to 11:30 A.M. P.M. in Wilder 101. Goldman received his second Oscar in 1977 for his screenplay adaptation of Carl Bernstein and Robert Woodward's All the President's Men.

    70. William Goldman's The Princess Bride
(william goldman, The Princess Bride, New York, 1973). GUILDER, a country lying on the other side of the Channel of Guilder from FLORIN.
    http://homepages.nyu.edu/~kan209/princess.html
FLORIN, a small country situated between Sweden and Germany. Florin is ruled by a monarchy. The last known ruler was Prince Humperdinck, who took the post from his father King Lotharon. Humperdinck was fond of hunting, and to avoid leaving the castle grounds, constructed the Zoo of Death. The Zoo was an underground dungeon located in the most remote corner of the castle grounds, consisting of five levels. Each level featured a particular type of creature to test certain abilities. The first level contained creatures of speed, such as wild dogs, cheetahs, and hummingbirds. The second level featured creatures of strength, like anacondas, rhinos, and crocodiles. The third level was poisonous animals, including spitting cobras, jumping spiders, and death bats. The fourth level contained the enemies of fear, such as the shrieking tarantula, the blood eagle, and the sucking squid. The fifth level was empty, in hopes of a creature as dangerous and powerful as the Prince himself. The Castle is located in Florin City, the largest municipality in Florin. Florin City is also home to the Great Square and the Thieves Quarter. Outside the city, notable landmarks include the Cliffs of Insanity, which border the Florin Channel. Nearby the Fire Swamps straddle between Florin and GUILDER. Within the swamps can be found patches of snow sand, which is fine and powdery and kills via suffocation. The swamps are also home to Rodents of Unusual Size, carnivorous creatures as fast as wolfhounds, usually weighing about eighty pounds.
