DIGITAL POETRY Jorge Luiz Antonio (1) The use of a computer, even if we are reading a piece of traditional literature such as a sonnet, implies a mediation which alters the final product (2). Access to poetry through a machine is totally different from opening a book, a magazine, a newspaper, or a copybook. The computer re-makes the text (3). If mapping the constituents of digital poetry has been a constant problem, finding a denomination has been equally difficult. Below is a non-exhaustive list of terms which have been used at different times, sorted into alphabetical order: Autopoems Cin(E)Poetry - creative work of film and poetic video makers. The group involved is called LTV (Literary Television), from the USA, and was previously known as Film Workshop. They collected a very big file to be distributed to television, cable broadcasters, educational institutions, and internet webcasters. Cine(E)Poetry experiments with visual images, using video, film, animation, sound and computational techniques, and all these non-verbal languages share a special focus with spoken and written poetry as something essential to the whole. Article Excerpt
Two quotes drawn from pages of The Cricket, mimeographed music magazine edited by LeRoi Jones, Larry Neal, and A. B. Spellman in 1968 and 1969, most aptly reflect the intent of the magazine's vision of inter-arts solidarity, aspiration, and attitude. James Stewart's essay "Revolutionary Black Music in the Total Context of Black Distension" proclaims, "Black art is movement, being and becoming. Black art is fluid. Black creation is flux. Speech, poetry, dance and music" (Cricket 3: 14). And considering a new album by Albert Ayler in the final issue of the publication, Larry Neal writes: While these two transmissions most fittingly reflect the mission of The Cricket, nearly everything that appeared in the magazine functioned to promote music as a cultural nucleus. Though only four issues were produced, The Cricketsubtitled Black Music in Evolutionvitally represented and upheld accelerated standards for progressive art by insisting on a flow between various creative forms after bebop became mainstream.

29. Anthropophagy
Personal Interview, conducted by christopher funkhouser and Lucio Agra, Jorge Luiz Antonio and christopher funkhouser. São Paulo FAEPUnicamp Editora
http://www.lehman.cuny.edu/ciberletras/v17/funkhauser.htm
Augusto de Campos, Digital Poetry, and the Anthropophagic Imperative
Chris Funkhouser New Jersey Institute of Technology When Pero Afonso de Sardinha arrived on the shores of Brazil from Portugal in the mid-sixteenth century to be Bishop of Bahia, natives in the Aimorés tribe ritualistically ate him. This historical event has been a source of identification for Brazilian artists since the modern era, and has been used as a foundation for the cultivation of encompassing expressive poetic forms. Use of this transgressive context has by now expanded, and has new significance and application in today’s media environment. Anthropophagy (or cannibalism) was the name assigned to this unusual, iconoclastic, and somewhat obscure creative philosophy, a concept announced by, and exemplified in, Oswald de Andrade’s “Anthropophagy Manifesto” (1928), which proclaims “I am only interested in that which is not my own” (65).( ) External texts and idioms become grist for the anthropophagist’s mill, a trait reflected in Oswald’s short poems “Biblioteca Nacional” (partially composed of juxtaposed document titles, e.g., “Brazilian Code of Civil Law/How to Win the Lottery/Public Speaking for Everyone/The Pole in Flames) and “Advertisement” (which adopts the language of advertising copy, e.g., “All women—deal with Mr. Fagundes/sole distributor/in the United States of Brazil”) (Bishop 11, 13). While numerous poets and artists were profoundly motivated by anthropophagy, this presentation divulges the underlying principles and impact of the concept as it relates to poetic works by Augusto de Campos, who has tapped into aspects of Oswald’s idea as a resource and rationale throughout his career.(

... WDAF-Fox-4 Kansas City Mayor Suggests Lowering Standards for Police Officers
Should people with a felony be allowed to be cops?
Mayor Funkhouser said why not let people with a criminal record be a police officer? And by this, I presume he means those with adult felonies, and not those with juvenile felonies but no adult ones. The latter idea was already floated here in St. Louis. Christopher said there are other ways to recruit minorities without compromising standards. I can ill imagine the General Assembly in Missouri giving this the time of day. uber alles . You knew this day would come.
