Stephen Fry is well known as an actor, author, comedian, presenter, film director, playwright and all round intellect. He's also a passionate technophile. He was the second person in England to get a Mac computer, just after the author Douglas Adams; the first person he knew on the internet and he's currently obsessed by smart phones (he admits he should get out more). VideoJug went along to ask him about what new technology excites him today and where we're heading in the future. You might also like to look at Understanding The Internet

Welcome, visitor, to this official website. It has been four years since the site was launched and over a decade since I built my first.  As I said at the launch, I have no philosophy, religion or lifestyle to espouse. This is a virtual place in which to browse peacefully and without being harangued, harassed, heckled or hectored. Following its success I have decided to add my own personal blog: as you might see from the first entry it will not always be take the form of the typical breezy journal, though sometimes it will be just that.
As ever, the site will continue to grow and more will be added. Your comments and opinions are extremely welcome. I do visit the site regularly but as I hope you can understand, it is almost always impossible to reply personally. The moderators and administrators have my trust and above all my thanks for their help in keeping the site lively, friendly and unthreatening. Meanwhile, graze happily and thank you for your time.

From being half of the comedy duo Fry and Laurie to the definitive screen portrayal of Oscar Wilde , British comedy's Renaissance man has graced film, theatre, radio, television, novels and newspapers with his witticisms and love of the English language. After a brief spell at Her Majesty's Pleasure for credit card fraud (where he was nicknamed 'The Professor'), Fry studied English at Queen's College, Cambridge. As well as appearing in numerous plays and writing one himself, he was asked to join the Cambridge Footlights by its president, Hugh Laurie , who hoped they would collaborate together. Their Footlights revue show of 1981 won the first Perrier award at the Edinburgh festival and after a three month tour of Australia, Fry and Laurie's partnership was cemented. The success of the Footlights revue resulted in three episodes of There's Nothing to Worry About!

    • Comedy A Bit of Fry and Laurie
A Bit of Fry and Laurie
Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie met while they were undergraduates at Cambridge University and members of Footlights. They were introduced to each other by fellow student Emma Thompson. Their shared sense of humour immediately clicked, forging a comic partnership that became one of the strongest and most enduring in Britain across the 80s and 90s. After joining ensemble sketch show Alfresco, alongside Thompson and Robbie Coltrane and following appearances on Saturday Live, in 1987 they landed their own BBC series. This outlet for their burgeoning writing and performing talents enabled them to explore their particular brand of humour, which readily mixed subtle wordplay with slapstick and maintained an anarchic edge partly thanks to their awareness of, and frequent references to, the set of their own show. The mix of sketches had a healthy hit-rate and unpredictability, alternating between items recorded in front of the audience and items shot on location.
