MENDING WALL
Robert Frost Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the upper boulders in the sun,
And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
The work of hunters is another thing:
I have come after them and made repair
Where they have left not one stone on a stone,
But they would have the rabbit out of hiding,
To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean,
No one has seen them made or heard them made,
But at spring mending-time we find them there. I let my neighbor know beyond the hill; And on a day we meet to walk the line And set the wall between us once again. We keep the wall between us as we go. To each the boulders that have fallen to each. And some are loaves and some so nearly balls We have to use a spell to make them balance: 'Stay where you are until our backs are turned!' We wear our fingers rough with handling them. Oh, just another kind of out-door game, One on a side. It comes to little more: There where it is we do not need the wall: He is all pine and I am apple orchard. My apple trees will never get across And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.

"The Gift Outright"

Holograph
Manuscript Division
Robert Frost wrote a new poem entitled "Dedication" for delivery at the inauguration of John F. Kennedy in 1961, but never read it, because the sun's glare upon the snow blinded Frost from seeing the text. Instead, he recited "The Gift Outright" from memory. The Library holds Frost's original, working draft of "Dedication" as well as this fair copy of the more familiar poem. Robert Frost served as the Library's consultant in poetry (1958-1959) and honorary consultant in the humanities (1958-1963). In addition, Frost recorded readings of his poetry at the Library in 1948, 1953, and 1959 for the Archive of Recorded Poetry and Literature. Robert Frost
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it's queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there's some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

56. Harvard University Press: The Notebooks Of Robert Frost By Robert Frost
The Notebooks of robert frost by robert frost, published by Harvard University Press.

The Notebooks of Robert Frost
Edited by Robert Faggen
Robert Frost is one of the most widely read, well loved, and misunderstood of modern writers. In his day, he was also an inveterate note-taker, penning thousands of intense aphoristic thoughts, observations, and meditations in small pocket pads and school theme books throughout his life. These notebooks, transcribed and presented here in their entirety for the first time, offer unprecedented insight into Frost's complex and often highly contradictory thinking about poetics, politics, education, psychology, science, and religionhis attitude toward Marxism, the New Deal, World Waras well as Yeats, Pound, Santayana, and William James. Covering a period from the late 1890s to early 1960s, the notebooks reveal the full range of the mind of one of America's greatest poets. Their depth and complexity convey the restless and probing quality of his thought, and show how the unruliness of chaotic modernity was always just beneath his appearance of supreme poetic control. Edited by preeminent Frost scholar Robert Faggen and annotated to help readers with the poet's more elusive references, the notebooks are also thoroughly cross-referenced, marking thematic connections within these and Frost's other writings, including his poetry, letters, and other prose. This is a major new addition to the canon of Robert Frost's writings.

RIPTON, Vt. - A former home of poet Robert Frost has been vandalized, with intruders destroying dozens of items and setting fire to furniture in what police say was an underage drinking party. Homer Noble Farm, a former Frost residence that's now a historic landmark, was ransacked late Friday night during a party attended by up to 50 people, Sgt. Lee Hodsden said Monday. The intruders broke a window to get into the two-story wood frame building — a furnished residence open in the summer — before destroying tables and chairs, pictures, windows, light fixtures and dishes. Wicker furniture and dressers were smashed and thrown into a fireplace and burned, apparently to provide heat in the unheated building, he said. Empty beer bottles and cans, plastic cups and cellophane apparently used to hold marijuana were also found, according to Hodsden. The vandals vomited in the living room and discharged two fire extinguishers inside the building, located on a dead-end road off Route 125.

The Frost Farm - The Homes and Roads of Robert Frost
The Frost Farm in Derry, NH For each reader of Frost there is a different poet and poem. We can make our own meaning of his work. To celebrate that work we left Boston, MA on a two day road trip through New Hampshire and Vermont to see how the states where the poet lived and wrote, remember him. Advertisement:
Our journey begins on I-93 heading northwest of Boston. I left on a Saturday Morning, with my wife by my side, a New England road map, camera, binoculars, bird guide (in case of oven birds), and some sandwiches and water in the trunk. The first stop was The Robert Frost Farm in Derry, NH about an hour from Boston. This was where the poet wrote many of the poems for his first book of poetry, A Boys Will published in England in 1913, including poems such as "Into My Own," and "The Trial by Existence." Here Frost claimed to have written material for his first three books. We arrived before the house opened and took a stroll around the property. The white farmhouse and barn sit on a two lane highway that did not see much traffic during our visit. We went out past the house into the pasture in back. The grass was not cut and we stayed on a trail that runs along a stone wall beside the pasture. The air was filled with the smell of sunshine and flowers. This stone wall was the inspiration for the poem "Mending Wall" in
