Anne Frank (1929-1945) Anne Frank's world famous diary charts two years of her life from 1942 to 1944, when her family were hiding in Amsterdam from German Nazis. The diary begins just before the family retreated into their 'Secret Annexe'. Anne Frank recorded mostly her hopes, frustrations, clashes with her parents, and observation of her companions. Its first version, which appeared in 1947, was edited by Anne's father, who removed certain family references and some of her highly intimate confessions. "I haven't written for a few days, because I wanted first of all to think about my diary. It's an odd idea for someone like me to keep a diary; not only because I have never done so before, but because it seems to me that neither I - nor for that matter anyone else - will be interested in the unbosomings of a thirteen-year-old schoolgirl. Still, what does that matter? I want to write, but more than that, I want to bring out all kinds of things that lie buried deep in my heart." (from The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank In 1944 Gestapo was informed of the flat - from 10 000 Jews, who went into hiding, some 5 000 were betrayed. SS Officer Karl Joseph Silberbauer - found in the 1960s by Simon Wiesenthal - arrested the Frank and the Van Pels families. The Franks were transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where Anne's mother died. Anne and her sister were transferred from the Dutch concentration camp, Westerbork, to Bergen-Belsen where they both died of typhus.

Anne Frank was born in 1929 in Frankfurt am Main in Germany . In , the anti-Jewish National Socialist Party led by Hitler comes to power. Anne Frank's Jewish parents Edith and Otto Frank perceive that there is no future in Germany for themselves and their children. They flee to the Netherlands in 1933. Anne is then four years old. Until she is eleven she grows up without a care in a relatively safer Holland. In 1940, the Netherlands is occupied by Germany and the protection that Holland provides comes to an end. Anne's life is increasingly restricted by the anti-Jewish Decrees. Beginning in Westerbork To avoid deportation, Jews must arrange a hiding place with non-Jews. Such hiding places are difficult to find, but Anne's parents see the possibility of going into hiding in the annex of the building that houses Otto's business. Otto and Edith Frank protect Anne from the danger that threatens them for as long as possible. Only a few days before going into hiding, Anne's father tells her that they are not going to a camp but are going to hide from the Germans. On July 6, 1942, the family goes into hiding. Even though Anne sees hiding as an exciting adventure in the beginning, soon enough the hiding place becomes too small for her restless character. For more than two years Anne Frank describes her daily life in hiding in writing.

Whoever is happy will make others happy too. He who has courage and faith will never perish in misery.'' Anne Frank was born June 12, 1929. As a child, she had a hobby, which was keeping a diary. She had a special name for her diary. She called it Kitty. In 1933, Anne and her family moved from Germany to the Netherlands after the Nazis had begun to persecute the Jews. In 1942, during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, Anne and her family hid in a secret annex, behind the Amsterdam office of her father's business. Later in 1944, their hiding place was discovered, and she and her family were taken to Auschwitz, a concentration camp, and later to Bergen-Belson. Anne Frank died there of typhus, less than one year later in 1945. Her father was the only member of her family who survived. In 1947, Anne Frank's diary was published. It was called "The Diary of Anne Frank." Through all the hard times in Anne Frank's life, she still found the time and the courage to one of the things she loved best - writing in her diary. Anne Frank Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt am Maine, Germany on June 12, 1929. Her older sister, Margot was three years older than her. In 1933 Anne, Margot, her father (Otto Frank) and her mother (Edith Frank) moved to Amsterdam. On Anne Frank's thirteenth birthday she received a diary, she named it "Kitty" which she liked the best out of all her presents. She loved to write in "Kitty." By her thirteenth birthday Nazis were taking over Amsterdam and making anti-Jewish rules, and she was Jewish! She hated these rules. She went to a Montessori school. Then because of the anti-Jewish laws, she moved to a Jewish Lyceum where she quickly started to adjust. Then when World War II started her father, Otto Frank and some other clients where he worked created a hiding place in an annex to the office. The family moved into the hiding place as soon as possible. One day in August 1944, a little after two years of hiding, the Frank family was found and put into a concentration camp. Anne died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp of typhus and so did her sister Margot. Her mother died of starvation and her father was the only one (out of that family) who survived. Anne Frank is remembered in many ways. There have been books written about her, and plays and movies to tell her story. While she was hiding she kept her diary because she wanted to be educated. Her father Otto kept her diary and two years after she died, in 1947, her father published it unchanged. In 1959, a movie was filmed about her diary. In her short life she was able to writing short stories and some short fables. She is remembered most for her diary that has been published in over 30 languages. Many children all over America read the "Diary of Anne Frank" in school.

Not only that I have never written before, but it strikes me that later I, nor anyone else, will care for the outpouring of a thirteen year old schoolgirl. Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany , on 12th June, 1929. When Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 Otto Frank, his wife and two children, Anne and Margot moved to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. When the German Army occupied the Netherlands, the family went into hiding. For the next twenty-five months they lived in a sealed-off office back-room. In August, 1944, the family were betrayed to the Gestapo and they were arrested and deported to German occupied Poland. After spending a month in the extermination camp in Auschwitz , Anne and Margot were sent to Belsen , a concentration camp in Germany. Anne Frank and her sister both died of typhus in March, 1945. Otto Frank, the only member of the family to survive, was rescued from Auschwitz by Red Army troops in January, 1945. After he arrived back in Amsterdam friends gave him the papers that the Gestapo had left behind after searching the hiding place. This included Anne Frank's diary that was published in the Netherlands in 1947. It has since been published into 67 languages and is one of the most widely read books in the world. Anne Frank
Anne Frank's diary has become famous throughout the world. The diary provides a vivid and poignant glimpse into the world of a young Jewish girl living in Nazi occupied Holland. Anne wrote diary while hiding from the Nazis in an Amsterdam warehouse. She was just 13 when she and her family went into hiding. For two years the Franks lived in a secret annex at the back Mr Frank's business premises on Prinsengracht Street. Their living space was hidden by a movable bookshelf. Anne was born in Frankfurt in 1929, and her parents fled from Nazi Germany for Amsterdam in 1933. Germany invaded Holland in 1940 and, a year later, all public schools were closed to Jews. The following year Jewish deportations from Holland began, under the guise of forced labour in the East. It was at this point that Anne's family decided to go into hiding. The Frank family remained in their hiding place from 9 July 1942 to 4 August 1944, together with four other Jews, kept alive with the help of their non-Jewish Dutch office workers. They were eventually betrayed, and the family was deported to Westerbork camp and then to Auschwitz-Birkenau. In November 1944 Anne arrived with her sister Margot in Bergen-Belsen, where she fell ill and died of typhus in March 1945. Anne had hoped to become an author, and during her time in hiding she wrote several short stories as well as her diary. Immediately following the arrest of Anne's family, Miep, one of the Dutch office workers, found Anne's diary, which she kept, hoping to return it to Anne after the war. Anne's father Otto Frank survived the Holocaust and after he received confirmation that both Margot and Anne were dead, Miep handed him Anne's diary realising this was Anne's lasting legacy. Having read its pages, Otto Frank agonised over whether he should publish her private thoughts. He knew Anne had always wanted to be a writer and he consulted various people about his dilemma. He finally decided to find a publisher for the diary.

Anne Frank was one of the Jewish victims of Nazi persecution during the second world war. After Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, increasingly severe anti-Jewish measures began here as well. The Frank family tried to escape by going into hiding. On July 1942, Otto Frank, Edith Frank-Hollander and their daughters Margot and Anne hid in this building on the Prinsengracht. They where later joined by Mr. and Mrs Daan, their sun Peter and Mr. Dussel. The building consists of two parts : a front house and a back annex. Otto Frank's business was located in the front house. The uppermost floors of the back anexe became the hiding place. After more than two years the group was betrayed and deported. Anne and Margot died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen in March 1945, only a few weeks before this concentration camp was liberated. Otto Frank, the only member of the group to survive, returned after the war. During the hiding period Anne Frank kept a diary. In it she described daily life in the back anexe, the isolation and the fear of discovery. Anne's diary survived the war: after the betrayal it was found by Miep Gies, one of the helpers. When it was confirmed that Anne would not be returning, Miep gave the manuscripts to Otto Frank. In 1947 the first Dutch edition appeared. Since then the diary has been published in more then 55 languages.
