Frederick Forsyth
Frederick Forsyth was born in Ashford, Kent on 25 August 1938, the son of a store owner. At 19, Frederick Forsyth became the youngest pilot in the Royal Air Force, however he switched to journalism and in 1958, Forsyth was a reporter for the Eastern Daily Press. The sixties saw Frederick Forsyth working for Reuters and the BBC in Paris, East and West Germany and Czechoslovakia. He also reported from the Nigeria-Biafran conflict as a freelancer. Frederick Forsyth then switched to writing exceptional thrillers, which were impressively researched. Two of his earliest books were also two of his best: 'The Day of the Jackal' and the 'The Odessa File'. Other bestsellers followed, including 'The Dogs of War' and 'The Fourth Protocol'. Having been a tax exile in Ireland, in 1980 Frederick Forsyth sold his house in County Wicklow, because of kidnap fears and returned to England. In 1990, Frederick Forsyth had decided to retire, but after being ripped-off by dodgy financial advisor, Roger Levitt, he started to write again. Dubbed right-wing and often heard being critical of the level of Britain's involvement in 'Europe', Forsyth has strong views on a variety of subjects. He wrote in the Wall Street Journal, for example:

SPIEGEL INTERVIEW WITH BRITISH AUTHOR FREDERICK FORSYTH
"They Take The Mind, and What Emerges is Just Tapioca Pudding"
Frederick Forsyth talks about researching intelligence activities for his new novel, "The Afghan" as well as western torture methods in Afghanistan and who would have killed Litvinenko if he had written the plot. DPA An anti-Taliban soldier outside the ex-Soviet Bagram air base in Afghanistan, September 2001. SPIEGEL: Mr. Forsyth, at the beginning of your new thriller "The Afghan," an al-Qaida member is eliminated when he uses his cell phone and is immediately located by American intelligence services. Do you own a cell phone? Forsyth: No, and I don't own a computer either. I'm obviously much mocked for being such a dinosaur, but I have my reasons. With my typewriter I've never sent seven chapters into cyberspace and lost them. Secondly, try hacking into my typewriter ... (Chuckles) . I also don't use the Internet for searches, because frankly I don't trust it.

Lord Falconer insists that the proposals do not equate to a police state and strike a balance between protecting the public against the threat of terrorism and upholding civil liberties. But thriller writer Frederick Forsyth tells BBC News of his personal response to the move.

"Avenger"
(reviewed by Judi Clark MAY 15, 2004) Yugoslav was breaking up. Milosevic posed as the man to save the union, but he made no mention that he intended to do this through genocide, known as "ethnic cleansing." Calvin Dexter is a moderately successful lawer in a small New Jersey town. As the novel opens he is in the midst of a triatholon style training excercise. He is not, though, training for any particular event. Just staying in shape waiting for the right ad in the right magazine one asking for a call from Avenger. When he does see it, he hangs the proverbial "gone fishing" sign out and disappears for a few days or weeks, as long as it takes.

Audio Interview with Frederick Forsyth
Frederick Forsyth, author of The Day of the Jackyl The Odessa File , and The Dogs of War , talks with Don Swaim in 1984 about Forsyth's most recent book at the time, The Fourth Protocol. Finally, he decided to write the book he had been thinking about since his foreign correspondent days, but he had a hard time getting in published. He soon discovered that the journey to becoming a published author is fraught with rejection and persistence. After the first book was published, he quickly grew in popularity and three of his novels were made into movies. Listen to the Frederick Forsyth interview with Don Swaim, 1984
