Ian (Lancaster) Fleming (1908-1964) pseudonym Atticus British journalist, secret service agent, writer, whose famous creation was the superhero James Bond, agent 007. Fleming spent some years with British Intelligence, but his books are far from reality they offer colorful locations, beautiful women, and exciting and inventive adventures. Nowadays the character of James Bond is as integral part of the popular culture as Winnie-the-Pooh or Tarzan. "It was a dark, clean-cut face, with a three-inch scar showing whitely down the sunburned skin of the right cheek. The eyes were wide and level under straight, rather long black brows. The hair was black, parted on the left, and carelessly brushed so that a thick black comma fell down over the right eyebrow. The longish straight nose ran down to a short upper lip below which was a wide and finely drawn but cruel mouth. The line of jaw was straight and firm. A section of dark suit, white short and black knitted tie completed the picture." (James Bond in Casino Royale Ian Fleming was born in London, the son of Major Valentine Fleming, a Conservative M.P., who was killed in World War I, and Evelyn St. Croix Fleming. Ian was the second of four boys. Like his father and elder brother before him, he was educated at Eton, where he excelled in the difficult steeple chase contest. His first story, 'The Ordeal of Caryl St. George', was published in the college magazine.

Home Celebrities : The Name's Fleming - Ian Fleming Contact! Ian Fleming was the creator of James Bond - he wrote twelve James Bond novels between 1952 and 1964. The movies have been produced since 1962. Bond's world was based on Fleming's own experiences in World War II. Fleming was plucked out of newspaper work to join British Naval Intelligence in 1939, when Churchill was still the First Lord of the Admiralty in Chamberlain's government. He became an aide to the Director of Naval Intelligence, Admiral John Godfrey, and was known as "17F". He was trained at Intrepid's "Camp X", on Lake Ontario in Canada, where he became practised at underwater demolition. He rose to the rank of Commander. With Godfrey, he met J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI, in 1941, and had some influence in the establishment of the OSS, the forerunner of the CIA. Read more about Intrepid on The Gremlins page on this site.

By Sefton Delmer
The two immigration officers in the departure lounge at London airport were chatting together as I laid my passport on their desk. Of course, I reflected, as I sat down to wait for my plane to be called, I could not expect an immigration officer or any other ordinary member of the public to know how much of his personal background Ian Fleming had woven into this fantastic secret agent alias James Bond whose adventures in paper backs and in films had made him a fortune. Ian Fleming, a tall, slimly built young man whose profile reminded me of the piper in the ancient Etruscan wall paintings at Tarquinia, spent the best part of two days with me on that train to Moscow. By the time that we arrived we were firm friends, so much so that we decided to share a suite at the National, the antique Intourist hotel just opposite the red brick Kremlin citadel. Reuters sent him to Moscow, and he had been there in 1932 and 1933 covering the show-trial of a group of British engineers from Metropolitan Vickers who were accused of having sabotaged the Dnjepostroj Dam their firm was building for the Soviet government. After leaving Reuters Ian had joined a firm of city stockbrokers he had a considerable family fortune behind him and that was his main occupation now, he said. This trip to Moscow was by way of an interesting holiday and a favour to the editor of The Times who was an old friend.

To Our Friends and Fellow Bond Fans in the Internet Community:
We the editors of "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!" would like to offer you greetings and, after a fashion, a goodbye.
For ten years now, we've used this site to explore the world of James Bond from every angle we could imagine, and we've enjoyed every minute of it. Many of you have shared the journey with us from its beginning, and we're immensely grateful to every one of you for your support and loyalty.
Original MKKBB Logo, 1997
MKKBB began in 1996 with Panos Sambrakos, a budding young web designer whose desire to create an HTML version of the alt.fan.james-bond discussion group's FAQ soon evolved into a much more ambitious vision. None of us could have imagined back then what MKKBB would grow into, or how quickly. David Morefield and Deane Barker signed on as contributing editors and soon a number of fan-created feature articles and interviews fleshed out the site, earning us the beginnings of a loyal readership who recognized us as the site made for serious Bond fans, by serious Bond fans. We then approached James Rumley, an accomplished journalist with a following of his own at his respected "007 News" site, and folded the two sites into one new entity that provided breaking news as well as feature articles. Soon after, we became the official web presence of the Ian Fleming Foundation, forming an alliance that flourished for over two years.
MKKBB becomes "The Web Magazine of the Ian Fleming Foundation", 1997
