(Student name) holds a bachelor's degree from (college/university). (He/she) was one of 35 students recognized by the UI Physical Therapy Graduate Program at convocation ceremonies held Nov. 20. The convocation address, "The Mystery of Attention," was delivered by Carol Vance, a faculty member of the UI Physical Therapy Graduate Program. Aimie Mowen and Heather Wirtz spoke as representatives of the graduating class. Completion of the MPT Program makes (student) eligible to take the state licensing examination necessary to practice physical therapy. This year, the UI MPT Program was ranked fourth in U.S. News and World Report's rankings of America's Best Graduate Programs. World Concert Artist Directory Emanuel Borok Violin Dallas Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Emanuel Borok, concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since 1985, has had a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader. Before coming to Dallas, Mr. Borok served for 11 seasons as associate concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and concertmaster of the Boston Pops Orchestra. He came to Boston from Israel where he spent one season as concertmaster of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. Born and trained in the Soviet Union, Mr. Borok received his early musical instruction at the Darzinya Music School in Riga, Latvia, where he studied with Vladimir Sturestep, who later taught Gidon Kremer, and the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow. In 1971, he became a co-concertmaster of the Moscow Philharmonic. Emanuel Borok has made many solo appearances in Israel, Canada, France, Italy, Norway, Venezuela, Mexico, Switzerland, Holland and throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall. His solo appearances have included the Bach Double Concerto with Yehudi Menuhin, Mozart's Symphony Concertante with Pinchas Zukerman and Brahms' Double Concerto with Janos Starker; chamber music with Itzhak Perlman, Lynn Harrel, and Emanuel Ax, Efim Bronfman and Christopher Hogwood. He was also featured in the Distinguished Artists Recital Series at the 92nd Street Y in New York. Pittsburgh Personals By Angela Mazza Allderdice High School Introduction Pittsburgh Personals is a unit that attempts to obtain young writers to place Pittsburgh as the setting for a personal narrative. Many writers set stories in a familiar place such as where they grew up, where they attended college or where they live presently. Pittsburgh with its reputation as the steel city has many stories about it that reflect its hard and tough steel town history. These stories are reflected in the novels set in an earlier time period such as Out of this Furnace, The Valley of Decision and the short story "Paul’s Case." Today, Pittsburgh’s image as a steel town and a smoky city is gone. The neighborhoods still remain, rich and poor, professional and trade. Its neighborhood tradition is maintained, unlike other American cities. Tradition dies hard here. So, much of Pittsburgh’s ethnic diversity remains. The big mansions of the industrialists endure along Fifth Avenue "Millionaire’s Row" in Oakland and Shadyside. Clayton, the home of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, remains in Point Breeze, along Reynolds Avenue near many of the homes of my students. The steel, iron and glass mills set along much of the Monongahela River in Hazelwood, Homestead, and Braddock are gone, yet the heritage of hard work and ethnic identity remain in the neighborhoods and churches of that area where many Allderdice students live now. Point Breeze, Homewood, and The Hill continue as Pittsburgh neighborhoods just as they did in the stories of Annie Dillard’s

Too much work. Besides, I’d just end up whining about how both so desperately fail at storytelling. I watched TV instead. But while I brushed my teeth I remembered that I needed to come up with a Friday Poem . I decided to use one of my favorites by Lynn Emanuel. While searching for the poem online I came across an interesting interview with Emanuel. Q: Why are you? Q: So why did you agree to this interview? Emanuel: Well, I suppose I console myself with the belief that, even in an interview, a fact can be an act of invention. It is late. I need to go to bed. I really don’t have time to write an essay on photography and poetry. But if were to write it, I’d probably say that a fact can be an act of invention. I’d say that photography, like poetry, doesn’t provide the pool of narrative, just the diving board. Good stuff happens when the citizen leaders use their great freedom of speech more widely and speak continuously and louder. Congratulations Arianna Huffington, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Lynn Woolsey, Air America Radio, the myriad of bloggers, the massive network of communication honeybees now swarming over corporate weapons of mass media which are becoming less relevant each day; congratulations are due to a nation of anti-war activists. Congratulations are certainly due to Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Rahm Emanuel, Democratic Caucus Chair Jim Clyburn and all the Congresspersons who labored in the trenches of fundraising. While the weapons of massive cash remains an evil that must be eliminated, the Democrats who were able to play by the rules forced upon them must be saluted and celebrated. On the battlefields of fundraising numerous medals were won. But above all the special genius of Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi must be placed on a proper pedestal. She forged a union among congressional Democrats that, like the flight of the bumblebees was deemed to be impossible. Nancy could not have read Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals because it was published only recently. Like Lincoln Nancy emerged battered and bruised; however, she inspired and whipped disparate Democrats into keeping their eyes on the prize.
