Since the electronic ballot went online on July 12th, I have gotten 104 ballots by e-mail. One of our webmasters, Erik V. Olson, was the first person to cast an e-ballot (what a surprise). Three paper ballots have been rejected because they had not been signed. Two other paper ballots were rejected because the voters had left all the identification lines blank and one person sent in an empty envelope. Some notes: You do not need to include pages one and two of the ballot if you're not buying a membership. Some people are copying all four pages and mailing them. I'm just separating and throwing the first two pages away if a membership hasn't been purchased. You may enclose more than one ballot per envelope. Members of the same household do not have to mail their ballots separately. I had a couple send in their nominations forms in separate USPS Express Mail envelopes! No, don't do that - send the money to me. If you insist on waiting until the last minute (he snarled through clinched teeth), I suggest you ask to have your envelope hand-cancelled at your post office. Frankly, automatic postage cancellation equipment sucks. I've gotten dozens of envelopes without any cancellation marks. Here's a suggestion. Cut out the Hugo Awards postal address from the first page of the ballot and carefully tape it to your envelope as an address label. Some Comments from the Ballots: "I didn't vote in all the categories." "Too clueless to mark more than one!" "Please consider adding an 'abstain' option for those of us who simply have no familiarity with a category (e.g., fan artist)." This is okay. Nobody is familiar with every nominee and category. Only vote for the nominees you think should receive a 2000 Hugo Award for work done in 1999. You don't need to rank every nominee in a category. If you leave a category blank, we're able to figure out that you're abstaining. We could add a "Abstain" line to each category, but it would make the layout even more crowded. No need to cross out those categories with angry red ink - unless it makes you feel better. "Next year you should have the short fiction on the web." I think our webmasters did a great job of providing links to the nominees with material on the web. If you're a Chicon 2000 member, you can go to Alexandra Digital Literature , or you can contact the cast president, Jeff Nurkiewicz at jeff@midnightmadness.org. "DON'T DREAM IT, BE IT!" Mailed ballots should be postmarked by 31-Jul-2000. 01-Aug-2000 Masquerade entry deadline. If you miss this cut-off, you might not be in the show. 03-Aug-2000 Closing date for booking rooms through One-Stop Chicago. Blackout period until 14-Aug-2000. Deadline for requesting a suite in the Hyatt Regency Chicago. 14-Aug-2000 Hotels should all have the information from One-Stop Chicago by this date. You can try booking rooms directly with the hotels at this time, although your chances are pretty slim. 15-Aug-2000 Deadline for Online Pre-registration via a credit card. We will stop accepting Art Show reservations on 15-Aug-2000. 18-Aug-2000 Deadline for receipt of Mail-in Site Selection Ballots is 18-Aug-2000. 02-Sep-2000 Deadline for Site Selection at the convention is 6:00 pm on Saturday. ais3@po.cwru.edu alt.fan.eddings rec.arts.sf.written ... http://www.amazon.com Other well-regarded on-line bookstores include Book Stacks (a personal favorite, since their physical location is my home town) at http://www.books.com and Future Fantasy at http://futfan.com Future Fantasy has the tremendous advantage of being a science fiction and fantasy specialty store, so if you have an obscure request they are a lot more likely to be able to help you. All three of the the above are U.S. based. For those in Britain, Bookpages at http://www.bookpages.co.uk has been mentioned to me several times. Another is the Internet Book Shop, located at http://www.bookshop.co.uk If anyone is willing to recommend some European and/or Asian bookstores with a web presence, I'll be happy to list them. Finding books that are out of print will take a little more effort. For those of you in Britain, Dave recommends Fantastic Literature. They only deal in mail order, and have a large selection of out-of-print sf, fantasy and horror. Contact them at: Fantastic Literature, 33 The Ramparts, Rayleigh, Essex, SS6 8NJ Two of the best places to look for used books on the Web are Interloc and A.B.E. Try them at http://www.abebooks.com

    About
Reviews Reviewers ... Miscellany Books Available for Sale In order to try and cover some of the costs of this site, I will be selling review copies of books. The books seem to breed like rabbits and I just cannot keep them all, as much as I would like to. Also, even though the reviewers work for free books, and Sharon, a professional editor, also eschews any fee, I still have to pay the postage on the books I send out and I have to pay my webmaster for the space on his server and for any changes I make to the site.
Please query at bf@reviewingtheevidence.com to see if the book(s) you want are still available as I only have one copy of each. And also for the postage. I will send books media mail ($3.50 for the first book and $0.50 per additional book ) I will adjust the postage downward for larger orders
We prefer PAYPAL but will accept personal checks in dollars or sterling, cash or postal money orders.. I will combine books so that if you order more than one, the postage will be reduced.
