African American Review Winter, 2003 by Lenard D. Moore CORNELIUS EADY AT THE PAINTED BRIDE ARTS CENTER your head rocks with every word that leaps from your mouth each hank of hair is a mystery, a message like this cold city night like this steady ticking of time and you are a sycamore rooted deep your language is black, blazing into the tunnel of my ears into the clear skin of my eyes, clinging to the listening walls like shadows beneath blue light shining on the crown of your head You Don't Miss Your Water you do not stop the story your tongue keeps on dancing words Lenard D. Moore, founder and executive director of the Carolina African American Writers' Collective, has poems recently out or forthcoming in The Midwest Quarterly, Brooklyn Review, Sauti Mpya, and American Tanka, as well as the anthology Step Into A World: A Global Anthology of the New Black Literature (Wiley, 2000).
