Faculty and Administration
San Diego State University
San Diego State University was founded on March 13, 1897 for the training of elementary school teachers. The seven faculty and ninety-one students of the then Normal School's first class met on November 1, 1898 in temporary quarters downtown while the first unit of the main building of the campus was under construction at Park Boulevard where El Cajon Boulevard begins. The curriculum was limited at first to English, history and mathematics, but it broadened rapidly under the leadership of Samuel T. Black, who left the position of State Superintendent of Public Instruction to become the first President (1898-1910). Under the vigorous administration of the second president, Edward L. Hardy (1910-1935), the School was reorganized as a four-year State Teachers' College in 1921, and control was transferred from a local board of trustees to the State Board of Education. In the same year, the two-year San Diego Junior College, the antecedent institution to the present Community Colleges, was incorporated as a branch of San Diego State, where it remained through 1946.

This laundry list of corruption speaks volumes about the underlying issue of the assault on Lennox by dean pamela Gates. When will CMU realize their mistake

Gary Peters fiasco
by Michael Westendorf Vanguard Staff Writer Commentary Lennox filed a criminal complaint with CMU campus police on Tuesday, however Gates preempted him with a complaint of her own, and the Isabella County prosecutors have decided not to press charges in either case. Gates’ complaint, however, received the scorn of popular blogger Chet Zarko from OutsideLansing.com. “Unconfirmed word is that the Dean beat Lennox to the punch and filed her own criminal complaint with the CMU "police" against Lennox alleging assault, and that the complaints against both Gates and Lennox will be or have been dismissed.” Zarko wrote, “…if it turns out to be true that she filed a criminal complaint against Lennox to "pre-empt" him then she has engaged in a frivolous and false filing and abused her office and position to retaliate against Lennox…” The University has responded with a campus-wide policy restricting the use of video recording. Even campus journalists who videotape on campus without permission will face disciplinary action. There are some who claim that this provision will not hold up to Constitutional muster. However, the most important issue here actually isn’t the assault of Dennis Lennox. As tragic as the assault is, the most important issue is what this assault stems from: Gary Peters himself. Allow me to give you a brief history of the whole subject and how all of this has come about. Brace yourself. As a Michigan tax-payer, you should be offended. What’s happening is about as corrupt as it gets.

University report: Gates did no wrong
Lennox refused to cooperate with investigation into Oct. 15 incident
By: Frank Wisswell
Issue date: Section: News Central Michigan University has absolved Pam Gates of all wrong doing in an Oct. 15 incident with a student.
Barbara Taylor, interim Affirmative Action Officer, completed the administration's investigation of the incident between Gates, interim dean of the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Topinabee junior Dennis Lennox II.
On that day, Lennox went to Gates' office to make a Freedom of Information Act request while videotaping the encounter. The clash resulted in both Gates and Lennox filing complaints with the CMU Police, although the Isabella County Prosecutor's Office declined to take up the issue.

Advisers assist students in making informed choices about campus programs and course selection, forming academic plans to meet long-term and short-term goals, and identifying various University resources. Advisers also help students make decisions about coping with academic difficulties (such as a cumulative average below 2.0), and with submitting petitions for exceptions to academic regulations.
PAS advisers can help students identify issues that are interfering with their academic success, and guide them to the appropriate support services. The undergraduate deans and advisers in PAS coordinate efforts with the specialized programs for ALANA students, students with disabilities, varsity athletes, and students receiving support services from other agencies, to provide a cohesive framework for decision making and referral.
Each year PAS co-sponsors a Majors Fair to give students easy access to information about a wide variety of departments and programs on campus. PAS offers regular new student orientations, assistance with preregistration, and help with admission to selective majors and to identify premajor tracks.

Pamela Dean. Tam Lin . Tor. 1990
Review:
This is a modern retelling of the story of Tam Lin, here set in a small mid-western American college in the early 1970s. (The original ballad is given at the end of the book.) Janet Carter has just started her first year there, studying English. "If the thing you liked to do best in the world was read, and somebody offered to pay you room and board and give you a liberal-arts degree if you would just read for four years, wouldn't you do it?" But there seems to be a ghost haunting her floor, there's something strange about the Classics faculty, and her advisor seems to be trying very hard to get her to change her major. There's lots of glorious description of being a student, of putting on Jacobean plays, and of the wonders of English literature. For the first nine-tenths of the book, apart from some minor weirdness, this could almost be a mainstream autobiographical-style novel. It's only at the end that things come to a head, but the action is all over rather too quickly and too easily (although with a hint that there's more trouble brewing in seven years' time).
