A writer is someone who writes. An author is someone who is paid for writing. The Internet has been an excellent way for both both writers and authors to "get the word out" and offer their work to an audience of readers. These are the Web sites of some of the best of the writers and authors that I've discovered on the Web and whose work I would recommend.

Romance novel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation search For other uses such as romance (genre) , see Romantic fiction A romance novel is a literary genre developed in Western culture , mainly in English-speaking countries. Novels in this genre place their primary focus on the relationship and romantic love Through the late 20th and early 21st centuries, these novels are commercially in two main varieties: category romances, which are shorter books with a one-month shelf-life, and single-title romances, which are generally longer with a longer shelf-life. Separate from their type, a romance novel can exist within one of many subgenres, including contemporary, historical, and paranormal. One of the earliest romance novels was Samuel Richardson's popular 1740 novel Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded , which was revolutionary on two counts: it focused almost entirely on courtship and did so entirely from the perspective of a female protagonist. In the next century, Jane Austen expanded the genre, and her Pride and Prejudice is often considered the epitome of the genre. Austen inspired

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective who made his first published appearance in 1887. He was invented by Scottish author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes is famous for his ability to use logic and astute observation to solve cases, becoming the World's First Consulting Detective . He is the most famous of fictional detectives, and indeed one of the best known and universally recognised literary characters.
Pastiche is a form of imitation. In literary terms, pastiche denotes the technique of employing a generally light-hearted tongue-in-cheek imitation of another's style; it is usually respectful as opposed to parody , which can be very critical. 265 Items Listed Updated 12/7/2007 From the Library of Scott Harker, here is a list of Sherlock Holmes books and other items, arranged alphabetically by author in the following fashion: Title Author Medium (Hardback, paperback, etc.) Comments about the content. Cruel Whispers, the debut novel written by Starr Reina is a high-rated mystery novel (3 x 5-star reviews on Amazon). If you want to read part of the first chapter, watch the front/back cover or even more do check out the Amazon page of the book! R ead the excerpt in this newsletter or read more on the author's website at http://www.queenwriter.com/ Welcome Dear Readers,
Another quiet month with not that many reviews BUT be sure to check out Tracy's article, which is extremely interesting! It's a very long article where Tracy interviewed some authors to query them about what they really think of the reviews they get, are they really useful? I'll probably be very busy in the coming months because I have 2 big projects for school (because it's my last year) and after that I have to work for a company for a couple months before I graduate. I'll do my best though to keep the site and the readers up-to-date!

Is Erotica Right for You?
by Tracy Cooper-Posey
I'm sure you've heard of erotica, "romantica" and of erotica authors making fabulous amounts of money. If you haven't, you must be so new to popular fiction you don't know dick about it. Did "don't know dick about it" make you blink a little? Yes, that was intended to shock you. Erotica is shocking, if you're new to it. But if you think it's just pornography with a pretty tag, think again. The quote I just used and others like it are found in erotica, but that's a tiny glimpse of the big picture. Read on and discover the rest of it, for erotica is different. A clear definition is difficult. Erotica has tentacles in a dozen genres. It's also a genre of its own. It's not sufficient to say erotica is a story with explicit sex. Nor is erotica only about sex, unlike its gutter-cousin, pornography. At its purest, the new erotic novel is a brilliantly-written story with super-nova sex that compliments the caliber of the writing, and is fundamental to the plot and characters. In other words, if you remove the sex, the story can't be told.

The truth is out there! What do readers and authors really think of reviews? Are reviewers wasting their time writing them? Does anyone actually read or care what reviewers have to say? Do authors really need a reviewer's contribution? So many questions, so little space! To answer my conundrums, I went out to the public and asked. You may (or may not) be surprised at the results! First, I asked the all-knowing readers if they found any advantages or disadvantages of reading reviews before buying. Many readers say they look at the reviews, but don't really allow them to influence their final decision. Recommendations by word of mouth and from close friends seem to work just as well as reviews. Isn't it a reviewer's dream to be looked upon in the same light as a trusted acquaintance with similar tastes and valued opinions? I know it is
