Robin Cook: hamrful intent
Since the author is a doctor writing murder mysteries, the characters that succomb to an untimely fate have vivid descriptions of their last living moments. You will be reading alot of detail on the deaths...if you are squemish, there will be more detail than you could want. With this in mind, try Harmful Intent, where the lead character is an anethesiologist trying to beat a rap for a murder he didn't commit. On his search for justice several more bodies will fall...some through murder and some through suicide. To complicate matters even more the both the police and a bailbondsman is on the trail and a love interest enters to spice things up. This story is an easy read and trust me, if you already don't like lawyers this will give you something new to ponder!

Chutzpah is the word applied to people who radiate belief in themselves without any visible reason to justify it. In the chutzpah stakes United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is way off the top of the scale. Before the war he told us that Saddam had "large stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons and an active program to develop nuclear weapons." After the war he explains away the failure to find any of these stockpiles or nuclear installations on the possibility that Saddam’s regime "decided they would destroy them prior to a conflict." You have to admire his effrontery. But not his logic. The least plausible explanation is that Saddam destroyed his means of defense on the eve of an invasion. The more plausible explanation is that he did not have any large stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. We need to rescue the meaning of words from becoming a further casualty of the Iraqi war. A weapon of mass destruction in normal speech is a device capable of being delivered over a long distance and exterminating a strategic target such as a capital city. Saddam had neither a long-range missile system nor a warhead capable of mass destruction.

    JOHN KAMPFNER
I first approached Cook on the eve of the 1997 general election. I told him that, whether he liked it or not, I was writing a biography of him. He was both suspicious and flattered. He said he would co-operate on matters political, not personal. It was only a few months later, when revelations of his break-up with his wife Margaret were splashed across the newspapers, that I fully understood what he meant. NI_MPU('middle'); I followed him through the heady first months in the office of foreign secretary and in his darkest period when he contemplated resignation and feared that his career was over. In one sense it was. A man of fierce independence, who had little time for those whose intellects he believed did not match his own, would become a prisoner of the Blair machine. Cook was not without achievements at the Foreign Office, but such was his vulnerability that Blair removed him unceremoniously at the 2001 election and demoted him to leader of the House of Commons. His career appeared all but over, until Iraq. Every political animal in Scotland has his own theory about the root cause of the Cook-Brown animosity. The city of Edinburgh did not feel quite big enough for these two great intellects, bruisers and egos. The two men had co-operated on a book of speeches and essays in 1974, and so in 1983 it seemed natural for them to work together. The most convincing explanation I have been given is that Brown never forgave Cook for trying to upstage him at a press launch for their latest joint manifesto that year, by starting the meeting early before his partner had arrived.

Norman Baker: Was Robin Cook murdered?
You may recall that one of the projects that Norman Baker devoted himself to after leaving the Lib Dem front bench was investigating the death of David Kelly.
That is not the only death he has suspicions about. The Brighton Argus reports that Norman has doubts about the death of Robin Cook too:
Mr Baker has signed a book deal to explain in greater detail his findings on Dr Kelly's death and he expects to publish it later this year.
But the MP insists he will continue to investigate.
