Sidonie Gabrielle Claudine Colette, Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette Colette married Henri Gauthier-Villars, a writer and critic, in 1920. He published her first novels, the Claudine series, under his own pen name. After they divorced, Colette began performing in music halls as a dancer and mime, and produced another book. This was followed with more books, usually semi-autobiographical with a narrator named Colette, and many scandals, as she established her writing career. Colette was married twice more: Henri de Jouvenal (1912-1925) and Maurice Goudeket (1935-1954).

    Colette (Sidonie-Gabrielle) 1873-1954
Colette was born in the village of Saint-Saveur-en Puisaye, Burgundy. Considered one of France’s leading twentieth-century novelists, she was elected to the prestigious Academie Goncourt and Academie Royal Belge. Recognized for her warm, subjective style and the lyrical beauty of her prose as well as her prolific output, she produced over fifty books, numerous short stories and articles for some of the leading newspapers and periodicals of her era. Critics generally divide her work into four phases: the Claudine novels, life in the theater, the politics of love, and reminiscences of youth and family. Dominant themes concern the difficulty of reconciling a woman’s struggle for independence and self-realization with the insistent demands of physical passion and the inevitable requirements of adult relationships. Although Colette considered The Pure and the Impure (1932) to be her finest work, many critics believe the best representations of her craft are found in The Vagabond (1910), Cheri (1920), The Last of Cheri (1926), My Mother's House (1922)

    Recently
We've actually been watching a lot of movies...
Got to see 'The Golden Compass' (and yes, I'd recommend it - it was a great film)
We rented all the 'Bourne' movies - I had not seen them because I am not a big 'action film' kind of girl - I did however like 'The Bourne Identity' - very well done and I want the soundtrack now...
At any rate over the week and weekend we watched 2 other films.
The first one - base on W. Somerset Maugham's novel 'The Painted Veil' - slow start - excellent movie, beautifully filmed - I think all couples should watch this film - good lessons about marriage and love, infidelity and regaining trust in each other.
The second film was one I'd been wanting to see - an award winning foreign film, Pan's Labyrinth - not for the faint of heart - in fact I had to leave the room because I burst into tears at the violence - I've decided my psyche is simply too sensitive - however it IS a good film and if you can tolerate some really graphic scenes I highly recommend the movie - it's magical realism tinged with darkness (as all magical realism should be...)

    Road trip!
David decided to get the kids and head north. He wouldn't tell us where we were going, just to dress warm and bring a bathing suit.
First stop was Battleship Cove in Falls River - the boys had been there on a boyscout trip a few years ago and really liked it, so we stoped there on the way to Boston. I haven't been here in almost 20 years so it was really interesting for me to see how much had changed! I even got to listen to the Ranger game on the radio as the Rangers have a home and home with Boston this weekend - we lost in the SO, but there is still today's game!
This morning we are going to do some sight-seeing and I am going on a yarn hunt - went on line and found the addresses of some LYS and plugged them into the GPS - then it is back home and work tomorrow - damn ( sighing sadly).........
