Name at birth: Agatha May Clarissa Miller From the 1920s until the 1970s Agatha Christie was the world's most popular mystery author, reportedly selling more than one billion books worldwide. While other mystery authors like Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett came and went, Christie continued to turn out gentle stories of murder and detection in polite society, sometimes publishing two or three books in a year. Her two most popular detectives, Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple, were featured in 30 and 12 novels, respectively. Dozens of Christie's stories became movies, most notably the star-studded 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express . In 1971 Christie was made a Dame of the British Empire for her contributions to British literature and culture. Extra credit : Christie's play The Mousetrap has been running continuously in London's theater district since its premiere on November 25, 1952. It is now regarded as history's longest-running play. Seminar Introduction

Agatha Christie,
An Autobiography, In this seminar, Henrietta McCall, special curator for the "Agatha Christie and Archaeology" exhibition at The British Museum, retraces Agatha Christie's travels to the Middle East, and explores how those travels and life on the archaeological sites she visited provided the inspiration and setting for several of her most popular books, including Murder on the Orient Express Death on the Nile Murder in Mesopotamia and Appointment with Death . Archaeology benefitted as well: Agatha Christie's emotional, financial, and material aid helped Mallowan to become one of the great archaeologists of the twentieth century. His career started at the ancient Sumerian city of Ur (southern Iraq), included the sites of Nineveh, Arpachiyah, Chagar Bazar and Tell Brak, and culminated at the major city of Nimrud, as he recorded in Nimrud and its Remains

Agatha Christie biography of an author
Agatha Christie, biography of the woman who gave her readers an inside look into typical country English life by writing about the things she was most familiar with.
Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born at home on September 15, 1890. She was the third child of Frederick Alvah and Clarissa Beochmer Miller. Her father was an American who had been living in England for twenty years. Her mother was English. Agatha lived at Ashfield in Torquay, Devonshire. When Agatha was 11, her father died. Before his death, he had begun teaching her arithmetic. Agatha never went to school. Her mother believed education destroyed the brain and ruined the eyes. She taught Agatha history and something called "general knowledge". Agatha read newspaper articles. The house was filled with books, and all three children were encouraged to read. As a teenager, Agatha read the Sherlock Holmes books. Early in the 1900s, she was heavily influenced by the novelist Eden Phillpotts. He lived nearby and she would visit him regularly. He mentored Agatha, encouraging and guiding her reading. After the death of her father, Agatha was taken to arithmetic classes twice a week. Her teachers instilled a respect for money in her. She also took Swedish exercise classes, piano, singing, and dancing lessons. At 16, she attended finishing school in Paris, where she remained for two years. She spoke French and German. She also took gymnastics and tennis lessons.

This page is dedicated to, in my humble opinion, the best mystery writer of all time. Here you can find a list of all her books, little something about some of the books, little something about the woman herself, and, of course, some related links that I've found. Hope you will find something interesting here. If you want to ask me some questions or give me some suggestions , feel free to do so. I'm really going to answer all the questions that I can and know, however sometimes I recieve questions which I wouldn't be able to answer if I was Agatha Christie herself. So if you don't get an answer for your question it means that I probably don't know it. Just don't ask me to do a book report for you, 'cause I don't have that much free time. Thank you for visiting my home page.

    AGATHA CHRISTIE
    An English mystery
Between 1920, when she was thirty, and her death in 1976, Agatha Christie published seventy-one full-length murder mysteries. She also brought out five collections of stories, two volumes of poetry, a number of successful West End plays and a couple of autobiographies; five non-crime novels by her appeared under the name of Mary Westmacott. In some years there were several publications; between 1939 and 1946 there were nineteen. By 1950, she had sold a total of 50 million books and she is still the bestselling author in the world. It seems reasonable to wonder where it all came from.

    40. Agatha Christie :: Famous People Who Overcame Dyslexia
agatha christie Dame agatha Mary Clarissa christie, DBE (September 15, 1890–January 12, 1976), was a British crime fiction writer.
    http://www.dyslexiamentor.com/famous/famousdyslexics_000.php
    Famous People Who Overcame Dyslexia
    Agatha Christie
Christie published over eighty novels and stageplays, mainly whodunnits and locked room mysteries, many of these featuring one of her main series characters, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple. She is a major figure in detective fiction for both her commercial success and her innovations in the genre. Although she delighted in twisting the established form, she was scrupulous in "playing fair" with the reader by making sure all necessary information for solving the puzzle was given. One of her early books, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, is renowned for its surprise denouement. Most of her books and short stories have been filmed, some many times over (Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, 4.50 from Paddington). The BBC has produced television and radio versions of most of the Poirot and Marple stories. A later series of Poirot dramatizations starring David Suchet was made by Granada Television. In 2004, the Japanese broadcasting company Nippon Housou Kyoukai turned Poirot and Marple into animated characters in the anime series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple, introducing Mabel West (daughter of Miss Marple's mystery-writer nephew Raymond West, a canonical Christie character) and her duck Oliver as new characters.
