Siv Cedering
The mother of a dear friend died recently. Her name was Siv Cedering , and she was a very accomplished poet, among myriad other talents including sculpting, painting and illustrating children's books. She was also a wonderful mother. I only met her once, but she really embodied the word "presence." And I read a book of her poetry all the way through, which I very rarely do. It was never a chore, I kept wanting to read the next one. As a modest tribute, here's one that seems particularly appropriate, as it speaks of memory, loss, and transformation.

Issue #35, November 23, 2007 Siv Cedering, 68 By Marion Wolberg Weiss Siv Cedering, a prolific writer and artist, died at her home in Sagaponack on Saturday. She was 68 years old. To say that Siv Cedering was prolific is to state the obvious. After all, hadn't she authored 18 books, illustrated four children's books, composed music, written lyrics and screenplays? In Siv's case, however, the word "prolific" goes well beyond its ordinary meaning. It also connotes the creation of varied art forms: fiction, poetry, musical composition, and illustration. But most importantly, "prolific" means more than quantity and diversity. It signifies extraordinary insight about human nature, the world. Life. And the generosity of spirit to share that insight with family, friends and colleagues. The world. The fact that Siv could incorporate her many art forms, insights and passions into a body of work showed that for her, perhaps, everything was part of everything else. For example, a random sampling of her poems in Letters From an Observatory: New and Selected poems 1973-1998 often used motifs inspired by music (in "Two Stanzas" and "Turning"), theatre and literature (in "Turning"). Siv's attachment to her family was another passion, notably in her poetry, novels and a particular short story, "Family Album." Her family memories are not ordinary by any stretch of the imagination, however, as she celebrates her Swedish heritage and traditions over the course of several generations. Even though she left her native Sweden for San Francisco at age 14, each family experience is savored, cherished, blessed by the life lessons it imparts.

POEMS ABOUT EMILY DICKINSON: A list of poems to and about Emily Dickinson published in the last 100 years
compiled and maintained by Elizabeth Aracic In the time since I first compiled this bibliography in 1996, there has been a surge of interest in the study of poems about Emily Dickinson, her life, and her poems. In particular, Sheila Coghill and Thom Tammaro edited a collection dedicated entirely to some of these poems in 2000. Poems that can be found there as well as their original source have been noted with [VE, 2000, page number]. Marguerite Harris compiled a similar edition in 1971, though it is out of print now. Siv Cedering, Hardie St. Martin, Vincent Ferrini
In the "In Memoriam" note in the Jan.-Feb. 08 magazine, I saw the names of two poets whose work has touched me in one way or another over the years.
One is Hardie St. Martin. I've known of him mainly as an editor and a translator of poetry from Spanish I first encountered his name, and his work, sometime in the 1970's, in the book Miguel Hern¡ndez and Blas de Otero: Selected Poems , published in 1972 by Beacon Press, one of the projects of those years done with the energetic involvement of Robert Bly and friends. These lines, from an untitled poem by Miguel Hern¡ndez in the above book, in St. Martin's translation:
Each time I pass
under your window
I am struck by the fragrance
that still floats through your house.

Patsy Ann Giese, Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA 16057 Although I have divided this bibliography into reading for adults and children/young adults, it should be obvious that some items on either list could be enjoyed by anyone who can read, regardless of age. Because I took citations from other references without checking all the primary sources, you may find errors in a few of the citations below.
If you want more than is included here, the best reference is Susan Searing's 54 page The History of Women and Science, Health, and Technoloav: A Bibliographic Guide to the Professions and the Disciplines. As implied by the title, the citations are grouped by subtitles such as astronomy and chemistry.
