George Gordon Noel Byron was born on 22 January 1788 in London. As a child he lived in Scotland with his mother. At the age of 10 he inherited the title Lord Byron from his uncle and he went back to England. In 1806 he published his first volume of poems, “Fugitive Pieces”. Later he withdraws the volume because Reverend John Beecher's has objections to some of the poems. His journeys to Spain, Malta, Greece (1809-1810) inspired Byron’s romantic soul and he wrote lots of great poems during his voyage. He married Anne Isabella Milbanke in 1815 but the marriage didn’t last for long because he had lots of love affairs. He is one of the most famous English 'Romantic' poets. Byron was also a satirist and his poetry captured the imagination of Europe. His major works include “Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage” (1812-18) and “Don Juan” (1819-24). He died on 19 April 1824 in Missolonghi, Greece.

  • George Gordon (Noel) Byron, Lord Byron 1788–1824
    English poet, dramatist, and satirist.
    INTRODUCTION
Both celebrated and vilified during his lifetime, Byron was one of the most flamboyant of the English Romantic poets. He is now perhaps best known as the creator of the figure of the "Byronic hero," a melancholy man, often with a dark past, who rejects social and religious strictures to search for truth and happiness in an apparently meaningless universe.
    Biographical Information
Byron was born in London to John "Mad Jack" Byron and Catherine Gordon, a descendent of a Scottish noble family. He was born with a clubbed foot, with which he suffered throughout his life. Byron's father had married his wife for her money, which he soon squandered and fled to France where he died in 1791. When Byron was a year old, he and his mother moved to Aberdeen, Scotland, and Byron spent his childhood there. Upon the death of his great-uncle in 1798, Byron became the sixth Baron Byron of Rochdale and inherited the ancestral home, Newstead Abbey in Nottingham. He attended Harrow School from 1801 to 1805 and then Trinity College at Cambridge University until 1808, when he received a master's degree. Byron's first publication was a collection of poems

    Lord George Gordon Byron
English romantic poet and satirist. Principal works include Childe Harolde's Pilgrimage (1812-18), The Bride of Abydos, The Corsair and The Giaour (1813), Lara (1814), The Prisoner of Chillon (1816), Beppo (1817), Don Juan (1819), The Two Foscari (1821), Sardanapalus and Cain (1821), Werner, The Age of Bronze and The Island (1823). His letters and journals, many of them apparently written with an eye for publication are also considered to be part of his opus. Byron enjoyed a vast and durable reputation as a poet and his character, unconventional lifestyle and poetic style have synthesised to create the image of the Byronic hero.
Other romantic poets include Keats, Burns, Coleridge and Wordsworth.

6th Baron. British Romantic poet, also noted for his passionate and disastrous love affairs. His major works include Childe Harold's Pilgrimage (1812-18), and Don Juan (1818-24). He spent much of his life abroad and died while fighting for Greek independence. From Canto II of Don Juan For all we know that English people are

Bryon comments in his Notes: This sentimental savage, whom it is a mode to quote (amongst the novelists) to show their sympathy for innocent sports and old songs, teaches how to sew up frogs, and break their legs by way of experiment, in addition to the art of angling, the cruelest, the coldest, and the stupidest of pretended sports.

    Andrew Nicholson
Clement Tyson Goode has devoted a lifetime to bibliographical research into Byron. The present volume represents the culmination of his painstaking labours and should be regarded as a continuation of his and Oscar Jos© Santucho's George Gordon, Lord Byron: A Comprehensive Bibliography of Secondary Materials in English, 1807-1974, with A Critical Review of Research (Metuchen, N.J.: The Scarecrow Press, Inc, 1977). Together these form the most impressive and exhaustive record of the critical responses to and commentary on Byron since his first published appearance. It is difficult to do justice to such a magisterial project. The first part of the earlier volume provided a detailed survey of the criticism of and attitudes towards Byron's works from 1807, through the 19th century and the first half of the 20th up until 1974. Hence such crucial reactions as Carlyle's or Arnold's in the 19th, and Eliot's in the 20th century were documented, as were such landmark studies as M.K. Joseph's
