    X-Web-Epoch instead of X-UA-Compatible
This is in response to the X-UA-Compatible proposal from Microsoft to help IE8 and future IE browsers to know how to render web pages. There is a lot of commentary on the subject, but here are what I believe to be the original (public) sources for the proposal:
I understand and sympathize with IE's position: they need a switch to know when they can use a more standards-compliant rendering engine. There is a vast sea of font tags, tables, spacer images and document.all references inside corporate intranets, and no one is going to update that code, ever. However, any new versions of IE are expected to be able to render that sea of forgotten markup faithful to the original coder's intent. A responsibility IE gets for winning the first round of browser wars.
However, IE is getting push from today's web developers that want something easier to code against given today's suggested cultural approach to web development, namely adherence to publicly accepted web standards.
X-UA-Compatible provides a switch for IE to know what the developer wants: does the developer want the old wild west behavior, or a more standards-based behavior?

"Using a first-person narrator is simply a matter of hearing the voice inside yourself. The character is already in the author, I think. The challenge is not to allow the ego of the character to dominate the story. I remember something the creator of the Bonanza series once said. He was asked how he created such a successful television series, and he said he created characters [that] an American family felt comfortable inviting into their living room every Sunday evening. It's a great line." James Lee Burke is a polite man with a sense of humor and an easy laugh. Those facts conflicted with my preconceptions of this author who writes crime novels containing serious political-sociological themes and quick-breaking violence. While I expected someone more cynical or dour, to his credit (and no doubt contributing to his talent as an author), Burke also sees the lighter side of dark human predicaments.

    White Kids And Black History
Why do white kids need to learn about Black History Month? Where is the value in it? Dr. Maya Angelou Maybe you have your own ideas about why it is important for a white girl like my daughter to study the life of Dr. Angelou. I have heard all sorts of things about what a white person can understand about the life and struggle of a black person in this country. The most disturbing things I have heard focus on an inability to understand, to the point of impossibility. Because every person endures his or her own struggle, and faces challenges, uncertainty, peril, fear and despair. We read the works of others to learn about them, but young people also need stories so that they can learn about themselves, the people they are becoming, and the people they could become.
