The Double Diamond ranch had just finished a long cattle drive and all the hands were in town waiting for the bank to open so they could get paid and have a good time. And if a long, rowdy night ahead weren't enough to put some sand in the Sheriff's craw, there's that prisoner sittin' in the jail cell waiting to be hanged tomorrow and all them rumors about how his brother aims ta bust him out. Of course, it’s probably just as well that the Sheriff didn’t know that the McKenna gang was about to ride into town and attempt a daring daylight bank robbery! Yup, it was gonna be a long day in Drygulch.
    Contest Deadline Extended
    The newest adventure by Tom Reed is the seventh to be released in the contest, which has taken more time than the Gutshot Posse figured it would to get out. "Dang it if we ain't even farther behind schedule than we were in October," said Gutshot co-creator Mike Mitchell. "There ain't no one to blame but me, so I apologize to yuh all. Things just got away from me this year and now we're gonna have to do some hard ridin' to catch up."

She moved on through Wyoming and Colorado, where she nursed miners infected with small pox. Some of the miners believed that where Martha Jane went, calamity followed. Thus the nickname by which she would be known the remainder of her life, was born. She had signed on for several military expeditions as a bullwacker but was fired when her gender was discovered. If Calamity Jane liked shooting and riding, she loved whiskey even more. Her binges were notorious, and she spent more than one night in local jails for drunken, disorderly conduct. var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? Crockett has been the subject, or perhaps more accurately, the victim of tall tales or fictional portrayals even before his death. David Crockett (though, he was often referred to as "Davy" in American Tall Tales) was born in Greene County, Tennesse, on August 17, 1786. He was not educated well, but in 1813 he was able to serve under General Andrew Jackson in the campaign against the Creek Indians. Jackson would eventually become President. In 1828, the little educated Davy would go on to be a Congressman where he supported the rights of Native Americans who were being exterminated as a result of Andrew Jackson's new Indian Removal Act. Because of his opposition to Jackson, Crockett was defeated when he ran for re-election in 1831. Crockett would win only once more-in 1833-before he would be defeated twice again. It was during this time in 1834 that Crockett wrote a book titled, "A Narrative of the Life of David Crockett" and went to the East to promote it. Seeing that he probably could not win political campaigns any longer, Crockett parted the

    Calamity Jane was called, variously, Marthy Cannary or Martha Jane Cannary or Martha Canary. Born, according to her account, in Missouri in 1852, she was certainly in the West by the 1870s, by which time she was presumably in her twenties. While much of her 'autobiography' appears to be invention, she did drive trains of oxen, hauling freight between the mining camps of the Dakota Territory. She did meet, shortly before his murder, Wild Bill Hickok in Deadwood. While some have said there was a marriage, and even a child, between she and Hickok, there is no credible evidence they were ever lovers. That she was "considered a remarkable good shot and a fearless rider for a girl of my age" at thirteen, when she and her family emigrated "by the overland route to Virginia City", is certainly possible. Traveling overland from Missouri to Montana at the end of the Civil War would have certainly called for those skills from anyone who possessed them. adparams.getadspec('c_billboard1');

    Encyclopedia of World Biography on Calamity Jane Martha Jane Cannary, known as Calamity Jane (1852-1903), was a notorious American frontier woman in the days of the Wild West. As unconventional and wild as the territory she roamed, she has become a legend. The most likely date of Jane Cannary's birth is May 1, 1852, probably at Princeton, Missouri. When she was 12 or 13, the family headed west along the Overland Route, reaching Virginia City, Montana, five months later. En route Jane learned to be a teamster and to snap 30-foot bullwhackers. Her father died in 1866 and her mother died a year later. Late in 1867 Jane was in Salt Lake City. Until the early 1870s nothing more is known of Jane. Then she appeared at Rawlins, Wyo., where she dressed and acted like a man and hired out as a mule skinner, bullwhacker, and railroad worker. "Calamity" became part of her name; she was proud of it.

    D uring the late 19th century there were many colorful women called Calamity Jane by dime store novelists, but none were as compelling as the real Martha Canary.
    M artha Canary was born in Princeton, Missouri in 1856. Journeying to the gold fields of Montana with her parents in 1864, she and her siblings were often left alone to fend for themselves. By 1869 both parents were dead, and there is evidence that Martha was alone in the small Union Pacific railroad camp of Piedmont, Wyoming, probably working in a boarding house. From there she traveled to railroad towns and military posts making her living any way she could, at times working as a prostitute.
