A minute's success pays for the failure of years.
Success

A pretty woman's worth some pains to see,
Nor is she spoiled, I take it, if a crown Completes the forehead pale and tresses pure. Women And gain is gain, however small. Gain Any nose may ravage with impunity a rose. Roses Be sure they sleep not whom God needs. Sleep Fair or foul the lot apportioned life on earth, we bear alike. Fate Faster and more fast, O'er night's brim, day boils at last; Boils, pure gold, o'er the cloud-cup's brim. Dawn Faultless to a fault. Faults God is a perfect poet, Who in His person acts His own creations. God God smiles as He has always smiled; Ere suns and moons could wax and wane, Ere stars were thundergirt, or piled The Heavens, God thought on me His child; Ordained a life for me, arrayed

Executive summary: Prominent Victorian poet and playwright A precocious poetical capacity, however, showed itself in extra-scholastic ways. He made his schoolfellows act plays, partly written by himself. He had composed verses before he could write, and when twelve years old completed a volume of poems called Incondita . His parents tried unsuccessfully to find a publisher; but his verses were admired by Sarah Flower, afterwards Mrs. Adams, a well-known hymn-writer of the day, and by W. J. Fox, both of whom became valuable friends. A copy made by Miss Flower was in existence in 1871, but afterwards destroyed by the author. Browning had the run of his father's library, and acquired a very unusual amount of miscellaneous reading. Quarles' Emblems was a particular favorite; and besides the Elizabethan dramatists and standard English books, he had read all the works of

65. Grow Old Along With Me.  Robert Browning
My times be in Thy hand! Perfect the cup as planned! Let age approve of youth, and death complete the same! robert browning (18121889)
http://www.poeticexpressions.co.uk/POEMS/Grow old along with me.htm
Rabbi Ben Ezra
Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith "A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!"
Not that, amassing flowers,
Youth sighed "Which rose make ours,
Which lily leave and then as best recall?"
Not that, admiring stars, It yearned "Nor Jove, nor Mars; Mine be some figured flame which blends, transcends them all!" Not for such hopes and fears Annulling youth's brief years, Do I remonstrate: folly wide the mark! Rather I prize the doubt Low kinds exist without, Finished and finite clods, untroubled by a spark. Poor vaunt of life indeed, Were man but formed to feed On joy, to solely seek and find and feast: Such feasting ended, then As sure an end to men; Irks care the crop-full bird? Frets doubt the maw-crammed beast? Rejoice we are allied To That which doth provide And not partake, effect and not receive! A spark disturbs our clod; Nearer we hold of God Who gives, than of His tribes that take, I must believe.

View: Robert Browning Poetry Robert Browning was born in Camberwell, a suburb of London. Young Robert spent much of his time in his father's private library of 6000 volumes in several languages. The chief source of his education
Browning became an admiror of Elizabeth's Barretts poetry in 1844. He began corresponding with her by letter. This was the start of one of the world's most famous romances. Their courtship lasted until 1846 when they were married. The couple moved to Italy that same year and had a son, Pen, later in 1849.
Robert did not become recognized as a poet, until after Elizabeth's death in 1861. After which, he was honored for the rest of his life as a literary figure.
Robert is perhaps best-known for his dramatic monologue technique. In his monologues, he spoke in the voice of an imaginary or historical character. Robert had a fondness for people who lived during the Renaissance. Most of his monologues portray persons at dramatic moments in their lives.

    77. Applying Modern Critical Theory To Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess"
robert browning The Poems, Volume One. Ed. John Pettigrew and Thomas J. Collins. New Haven and London Yale University Press, 1981. Pp. 349350.

Applying Modern Critical Theory to Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess"
Philip V. Allingham , Contributing Editor, Victorian Web; Faculty of Education, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario
In the following readings of Browning's justly famous poem, Professor Allingham shows the different kinds of answers different critical approaches can produce. (Brief explanations of each critical method link to each of the terms below.) You will notice that although these various critical theories ask diffrent questioons and produce different answers, these readings complement rather than contradict one another. In other words, in the same way that a cell biologist can ask questions about the physics, biochemistry, genetics, and physiology of a cell and receive differing results, so, too, can a student of literary approach a text in different ways without making the study of literature subjective and a matter largely of personal taste and opinion. [ GPL 1. The poem "My Last Duchess" ( complete text ) is termed a "dramatic monologue" because A. it contains three formal elements: an occasion, a speaker, and a hearer. [
