Anne Bronte His heart was like a sensitive plant, that opens for a moment in the sunshine, but curls up and shrinks into itself at the slightest touch of the finger, or the lightest breath of wind. Anne Bronte I see that a man cannot give himself up to drinking without being miserable one-half his days and mad the other. Anne Bronte I would not send a poor girl into the world, ignorant of the snares that beset her path; nor would I watch and guard her, till, deprived of self-respect and self-reliance, she lost the power or the will to watch and guard herself . Anne Bronte If you would have your son to walk honourably through the world, you must not attempt to clear the stones from his path, but teach him to walk firmly over them - not insist upon leading him by the hand, but let him learn to go alone.

She used the pen name Acton Bell She was born in the village of Thornton , near Bradford Yorkshire England , the last of six children. After the family moved to Haworth in where her father, Patrick Bront« , was appointed perpetual curate , Anne's mother, Maria Branwell Bront«, died of cancer. In , her two eldest siblings, Maria and Elizabeth died of tuberculosis contracted at the Clergy Daughters' boarding school at Cowan Bridge, Lancashire. Much has been written about the influence of these deaths on Bront« and her remaining siblings as well as its possible influence on their writings. Anne was educated at Miss Wooler's school at Roe Head, Mirfield. Between 1839 and 1845 she worked as a governess while writing in her spare time, which she had begun to do in early childhood with her two surviving sisters, Charlotte and Emily . . So she went away to school, where there was no time for such flights of fancy, and trained as a governess. Her health was not terribly good, but she perservered. In May of 1840, she went as governess to the home of the Reverend Edmund Robinson, where she would work for some years In 1843, Branwell went with Anne to the Robinsons' to act as tutor to the older boys of the family. When Branwell was dismissed in disgrace about two years later, Anne resigned her post, feeling that was the only proper thing to do . Though she was apparently glad to leave the post, she was depressed over the uncertainty of her future. The publication of the sisters' Poems in May 1846 was quite a bright spot for her, even though they didn't sell very well. Still, this publication encouraged all of them to write novels for publication, Anne's contribution being Agnes Grey . This novel, like Emily's Wuthering Heights , was published right after Jane Eyre in hopes of cashing in on that novel's success . Anne was at least optimistic enough to write a second novel
