Biografía de Blasco Ibáñez, Vicente España, Europa Escritor y político español. Biografía (Valencia, 1867-Menton, Francia, 1928) Escritor y político español. Estudió derecho en Valencia y pronto ingresó en las filas del Partido Republicano. Durante un tiempo estuvo ligado al valencianismo propugnado por Teodoro Llorente, pero poco después se distanció de él; el talante polémico de que dio muestras en esta primera época le valió un breve exilio en París, ciudad en la cual entró en contacto con el naturalismo francés, que ejerció una notable influencia en su obra, especialmente en Arroz y tartana (1894), con la que inauguró su ciclo de novelas «regionales», ambientadas en la región valenciana, la más famosa de las cuales sería Sangre y arena (1908), dedicada al mundo de la tauromaquia. En 1894 fundó el periódico El pueblo , que sería su plataforma política, primero como portavoz del republicanismo federal liderado por Pi y Margall y después, cuando se separó de éste, para difundir su propio idezario político, que pasaría a ser denominado blasquismo y que había de alcanzar una importante repercusión popular, sobre todo a raíz de la dura campaña contra los gobiernos de la Restauración que llevó a cabo desde las páginas del periódico. Procesado, encarcelado y condenado de nuevo al exilio (1896), dos años después regresó a España y fue elegido diputado a Cortes en seis legislaturas, hasta que en 1908 decidió abandonar la política. Buscó fortuna entonces en Argentina, donde intentó llevar a cabo dos proyectos utópicos de explotación agrícola que acabaron en sendos fracasos. Partió hacia París y en 1914 publicó la novela que le daría fama internacional
