    Introduction
Inn- und Kniphausen was a tiny territory (even by German standards!). One part of it is today part of Wilhelmshaven, the other was in the area of Varel, in the south of Friesland County [ Kreis Friesland ]. All I know is that it was ruled by the Aldenburg-Bentinck family and annexed to Oldenburg in 1855. It gained some notoriety when it remained unoccupied by Napoleon. Since it was considered neutral, the counts made a fortune by allowing other ship-owners to use their flag. Of course, this practice didn't last long...
Stefan Schwoon , 28 Feb 2001 On this 1789 map at the Baden-Württemberg mailing list website, you can see the two enclaves of Kniphausen (but just above the limits of visibility) in the northwest section of the map. Kniphausen is two small enclaves — one within Jever and one just to the south of it which is labelled Varel . While the northern portion of the principality is unlabelled its boundaries can just be discerned.
Ned Smith , 1 Mar 2001 The castle Kniphausen is in that northern half.

    10. James Lambourne By John Hanson
On 31st August 1784 the register of St michael s Church at Cumnor recorded the The Cavendishbentincks moved to Ampthill, near Bedford, in 1845.
    http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/external/cumnor/articles/hanson-lambourne.htm
    James Lambourne
On 31st August 1784 the register of St Michael's Church at Cumnor recorded the marriage of Samuel Lambourne to Mary Jeffs. Much later a 'lady' was to recall that both had associations with 'travelling' families, though there had been Lambournes resident in Cumnor for a hundred years and his son Samuel became a farmer in Leys Road. Mary Jeffs had roots in Appleton. James was the second son and fifth child born to Samuel and Mary. He was born in 1794 and, like the other children, was baptised in Cumnor. He grew up accustomed to travelling for his father was a carrier. James became known in the area, it is said, as 'Gipsy Jim'. It was while James was doing business at Warwick races that he met a maiden 'of fine slim form, tall figure, brunette countenance and hazel eyes, piercingly moving beneath her stylish black Beaver, and better than all, possessing a good temper' . This ravishing young girl with whom James soon fell in love was Sineta Smith, a gipsy seller of sundry articles. Her mother was called 'Prettybody Smith'. Sineta seems to have been born at Curraple in Italy. James and Sineta were married in the summer of 1816 at Shipston-on- Stour near Stratford and their first child, a daughter, born at Tubney, was baptised on 2nd October 1817 at Cumnor. She was named Sineta after her mother. Though they maintained family links with Cumnor, James and Sineta took a horse and caravan as their home, making their living from horse-dealing at fairs. They were not at Cumnor when the 1821 census was taken. Then, Samuel Lambourne, James's father, was still working as a carrier, living in Abingdon Road in a cottage that was next to the vicarage. His brother Richard, known as 'Poacher Dick', had married Elizabeth Barson, a widow, and lived with her, her four children and their son Richard at the farmstead next to the old 'Vine', opposite the church. His brother Samuel, a farm labourer but later a farmer, was living with his wife Mary and day-old son, lodgers in the home of Thomas Neale in Abingdon Road.

I've been a Wkipedia editor for about a year now and since then the number of historical articles has increased dramatically. The articles on royalty are now much more detailed and structured than they were a year ago. I think the efforts of a number of individuals, whose desire was to create unambiguously titled articles has been a success. The articles on the titles of the British and Irish peerage still remain a bit of a mess. Whilst we have standardised the general style of a peer and his title like so 'James Richard Cutherbertson, 3rd Duke of Mercia' there's no standard for how a page listing (or disambiguating) a peerage should be presented. There are a number of styles currently being used. e.g. NB I'm using old versions of these pages so that if someone edits the page into a different format (as I've done with the Earl of Derby) the comparison still makes sense.

CURTIS, in his History of Nottinghamshire, writes in 1844 :—“ Haughton Hall, once the site of the hospitable mansion of the Holles’s, Earls of Clare, is now occupied by a neat farmhouse; part of the wall of the gable and of one bay of present dwelling seems to be the only relic of this once capacious structure. The moat still remains to determine its extent, the circumference of which would enclose a baronial castle of no insignificant magnitude” . . . “Haughton Park containing about 900 acres, the greater part in the parish of Bothamsall, is now completely dis-parked, enclosed and divided into farms.” View of Haughton Park, c. 1709. “It appears that the hall was built by the last Sir William Holles, as appears by this ensuing, which is carved in stone on either side the entrance doore and expresses the yeare of the lord, his name and rebus. On the right hand is a man’s hand holding a vine branch loaded with fruit, upon which is a shield inscribed thus W.H. A°. Di. 1545.

While many of these individual styles have their merits, I think it would make sense to agree on a standard format. I don't expect that peerage articles to be born wholly conforming to any particular format, but it would be nice to agree on something that we would like to aim for. I know some people who have a particular interest in the peerage have followed a similar format to that used in Debrett's, Burke's etc. but we do not have to limit ourselves to squeezing information into one page in the way they do. I'll leave the floor and see if anyone else would like to make a contribution to this discussion.
