Yesterday I spent most of ten hours writing code for my cricket database, this time in VB (rather than Octave), reading from CricketArchive (rather than Cricinfo) scorecards.
Anyway , about nine and a half hours after I started, I saw a problem that could easily be fixed with a GoTo statement. I pondered for a moment, and then implemented it. It wasn't necessary, but it was easier than the various If..Then..Else's that I would have needed otherwise.
The coding marathon was well worth the effort, because my sleek VB code is about 1000 times faster than my clunky Octave code. This means that now the limiting factor in adding to my database is downloading the data, rather than processing it. | |
