Biography Base Home Link To Us Search Biographies: Browse Biographies A B C D ... Z Richard Bach Biography Richard Bach (born 1936) is an American writer.
Author of Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1970), Illusions (1977), The Bridge Across Forever (1984), One (1989), Out of My Mind (1999), as well as other books that are not novels.
Bach's early experiences included being an Air Force reserve pilot and nearly all of his books revolve around flight in some way, from the early stories which are straightforwardly about flying aircraft to the later books in which flight is a complex philosophical metaphor. Bach had a huge success with Jonathan Livingston Seagull which has not been equalled by his later books: nevertheless his work remains popular with readers.
Many of his later books contain an inherent individual New Age philosophy and wisdom. Richard Bach Resources Contact Us Sitemap

Richard Bach,
Illusions
(Dell, 1977)
I no longer recall when or how Illusions first came into my life. I always have a copy lying around, and it seems like I always have. Different copies, though I've been known a time or two to pass mine along to someone I think needs to read it, and then I need to go find another copy somewhere. (My loaner copies never make it back to me, but I'll chalk that up as a good thing in this case.) Richard Bach (not Richard Bachman, that's Stephen King) is best known for Jonathan Livingston Seagull and other books of a semi-spiritual nature. I've read Seagull and I've bought a few other of his books, but I've never been tempted to read them ... and yet I keep coming back to Illusions . Read it, and I think you'll know why. Sub-titled The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah , the book is written as if it were autobiographical. The protagonist, Richard, is a former writer who hates writing, and so he now makes his living flying around the Midwest in an old biplane, giving 10-minute rides from farmers' fields for $3 each. It's a lonely, but satisfying life ... and then Donald Shimoda, a former mechanic and retired messiah, comes into his life. Donald also makes his living as a flier, and the two men fly together for a while. Along the way, Donald imparts wisdom to Richard as a messiah-in-training. The idea is that everyone can be enlightened and, thereby, can define one's world accordingly. It's a difficult concept to comprehend, much less put into practice, so Richard relies on

The Intuition Network, A Thinking Allowed Television Underwriter, presents the following transcript from the series Thinking Allowed, Conversations On the Leading Edge of Knowledge and Discovery, with Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove.
ADVENTURES OF THE SPIRIT Part II: INTUITION AND IMAGINATION with RICHARD BACH
JEFFREY MISHLOVE, Ph.D.: Hello and welcome. I'm Jeffrey Mishlove. This is Part 2 of our two-part series, "Adventures of the Spirit," with author Richard Bach, who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Bridge Across Forever, One, Illusions, and Running from Safety . Welcome again, Richard. BACH: Thank you. MISHLOVE: We were talking about your sense of intuition as sort of a reality check for you. MISHLOVE: One of those numinous, radiant moments. MISHLOVE: It's like when you go to a movie, you can sometimes get so caught up in it you think you're right there. MISHLOVE: Right. MISHLOVE: But isn't that part of the script that you yourself wrote? MISHLOVE: Synchronicity. BACH: And the story of why he needed to have a student I was his second student. He needed to have five students before he would become a real flight instructor instead of a limited flight instructor. He was looking for students, and here right next to him was this guy who said, "Teach me." A little coincidence, and I ran away from school. MISHLOVE: But it expresses, as you say, some deep principle of the universe.

J.S. Bach - Harpsichord Works Main Performer
or Conductor: Richard Egarr Instrumentation: Harpsichord Individual Works: Partita no. 1
French Suite no. 5
Italian Concerto,
Little Preludes Format: Compact Disc Record Label: EMI Classics Year Released/Recorded: Total Playing Time: Comments: Andrew Meyer said: Eggar's masterly playing is a perfect example of the new wave of young harpsichordists who, in my opinion, are truly "authentic." Eggar addresses all of the elements required in interpreting this music; especially compelling is his control of eighteenth-century tempo rubato. This aspect of performance, most often simply ignored by other harpsichordists, is an indispensable tool in interpreting this repetoire. The harpsichord, built by Joel Katzman, is exceptionally beautiful, but hindered by the limited talent of the recording engineers. This disc has a nice collection of some very famous works like the Italian Concerto, as well as the less-played Little Preludes which reflect Bach's pedagogical mastery.
