Tips by Eugenia Riley http://www.eugeniariley.com/tips.htm
Extractions: TIPS ON WRITING THE TIME-TRAVEL ROMANCE by Eugenia Riley 1. If this is your first romance, or your first time-travel romance, it might be best to avoid the far-fetched and far-out. Remember that even a simple time-travel idea will bring about many complications in the transition from one age to another, the adjustment of your character to another time, and the consequences of the time-travel experience to both time periods. When your plot becomes too complicated, the time-travel experience too technical, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that you're writing a love story, not a treatise on time-travel. For a beginner, a relatively straightforward story featuring a protagonist who moves from past to present, or vice versa, may be best. It might be advisable, too, to avoid mixing genrese.g., combining time-travel romance with science fiction or futuristic genres. 2. Try to deal with the complications/implications of the time-travel experience in a way that neither leaves loose ends nor overwhelms the love story itself. Ideally, your time-travel experience should be integral to the romance. Ask yourself why your character has made this journey through time. What needs are being better met in another time period, and with the new love interest discovered there? Here again, the romance should loom foremost in your mind.

You can read about her novels in progress, plus posts about publishing scams, ebooks, romance, fantasy, etc. in her blog, Gorok and Wulf Host a Blog . Her day job involves editing articles for the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Time travel romances such as Diana Gabaldon's hugely popular Outlander series are popular with readers. Many writers are tempted to try their hand at this subgenre. However, like all romance subgenres, time travel romances have quirks and potential pitfalls. Here are some questions to ask yourself before writing a time travel romance. How Does the Story End?

Extractions: September is typically associated with the winding down of hot summer days, followed by a gradual cooling down. Trees are already beginning to drop a few dry leaves, and birds are seen flocking to the south in groves. This is also the time of year associated with children going back to school. This year, we have decided that our five year old son will be homeschooled. He is such an enthusiastic boy, that it's fun teaching him. His schedule is flexible, and he gets a chance to go to the library and museums on a regular basis, which also makes it interesting for all of us involved. On a sadder note, as parts of the Northern, Eastern, and Western parts of the United States were experiencing decent weather, the South did not. Hurricane Katrina came in with such a devastating force, that it left its imprint for centuries to come. We all felt its impact in some way, through the news coverage, through the rainy days that followed as it swept up into the north. We pray daily for the victims and their families afflicted by Hurricane Katrina. Please do your part, and help the Katrina victims in some way. They need all the help they can get. On a lighter note, I am happily into my second printing of "Lipsi's Daughter," and am planning a series of booksigning events in the upcoming fall months. September 24, I'll be attending the Daughters of Penelope Fashion Show to benefit the OI Foundation. It's a wonderful way to support this foundation that helps people with this little known genetic disease. For more events, please check periodically in the Events section below to find out the newest developments.

Extractions: While we will publish exceptional romances set in the early to mid-twentieth centuries, we will not publish just another romance novel which happens to be set in those time periods. When you sit down to read a novel published by our company, we want you to feel as if you've been yanked back into the scene. If you're reading a 1920s novel, we want you to see the Shebas and Sheiks staring across a room at one another, their hearts beating in perfect rhythm. We want you to feel the wind in your hair as you ride shotgun in the Model T. As Henry Ford's amazing invention rolls down the busy streets of Chicago, you'll feel the excitement in the air as the speakeasies began yet another night of thumbing their noses at Prohibition. We want romance to come alive and the night to sparkle with anticipation.
Extractions: Writing the Paranormal Romance by Becci Clayton Read any good vampire stories recently where he isn't killed and the heroine marries him because she loves him? How about a heroine who falls in love with a gorgeous, tall, blonde who is actually a cat in disguise? What do these story lines have in common? They are paranormal romances. Writing the paranormal romance isn't as easy as it seems. This type of story is not just about settings in different universes or heroines taking wobbly candlesticks and ascending into attics because they heard ghosts. Paranormal romance requires even more attention to plot development and detail. Points to consider in writing a paranormal are believability in the three "C's"character, conflict and consistency. CHARACTER: When writing about a character from a different time or setting other than present day earth, you need more detail. It's perfectly fine to make your hero a feline king on planet Xlkdat but then explain what his ordinary environment is like in terms that we carbon based bags of water life forms can understand and somehow relate to. Is he afraid of water and why? If his race has fur, does he find the nearly "furlessness" of the heroine very erotic and unusual? If your heroine is a ghost, what is her greatest fear? What if she became human again? Does she miss the touch of velvet against her warm skin? If she travels to the future, does she miss the smell and texture of fresh baked bread in the cold, stainless steel world?
