Ajax/Pickering Road Watch Program A group of volunteers working with Durham Regional Police to help reduce aggressive driving on city streets. Lists sponsors and features related news items. http://www.ajaxpickeringroadwatch.com/
Extractions: Road Watch Committee Committee Members Information About Road Watch In 1995, in Caledon, Ontario, eight young people lost their lives in a senseless crash on Mother's Day. A few months later six more lives were lost devastating the Caledon community. With the co-operation of police, local schools and citizens, a video was made to commemorate these lives and the negligent way in which they died. As a result, in 1995, Road Watch was conceived. For the first time Caledon citizens, supported by the local police, could report, in a non-threatening manner, any driver who displayed aggressive, risk-taking behaviour. This program is now being enforced in Ajax/Pickering and all other communities across the Durham Region. When you experience aggressive drivers, risk-takers or anyone breaking the law, you, the local citizen, can report the offense on a Citizen Report Form. These forms are located at countless Road Watch drop boxes in the region and a printable version is located in the Downloads section on this right side of this page. Try to identify as much information as possible (ie: license plate number, colour and type of vehicle, where the incident occurred and what you witnessed). The form must be signed to make the report legal and to protect the program from abuse. The signer's name will not be disclosed.

Extractions: olunteers are welcome in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service! With more than 36,000 volunteers contributing in excess of 1.4 million hours of their time, skills and talents, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's (FWS) volunteer program is robust and continuing to grow. The tireless efforts of our volunteers complete more than 20 percent of the work conducted on national wildlife refuges alone. Volunteers play a vital role in helping the FWS fulfill its mission of conserving, protecting and enhancing America's fish, wildlife and plants and the habitats on which they depend. We hope you will consider spending time with us to help us help wildlife. The volunteer program within the FWS was formally initiated in 1982, and began receiving congressionally appropriated funding in 1991. The program is as diverse as the individuals who comprise it. Whether volunteers are working at national wildlife refuges, fish hatcheries, wetland management districts, regional offices, or ecological service offices, each one helps the National Wildlife Refuge System and other FWS programs reach their full potential. The volunteer program provides people with hands-on opportunities to engage in wildlife conservation and be involved on lands that belong to them.

Extractions: RESOURCE CENTER My UNITeS FAQs ICT Success Stories ... Home By Jayne Cravens of the E-Volunteering Unit at United Nations Volunteers Version: November 2002 Volunteer managers already have phones and email to work with offsite volunteers. What is the advantage of using Instant Messaging (IM) with these volunteers as well? UNITeS , a global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) volunteering initiative managed by the United Nations Volunteers programme , posted requests for information on various online discussion groups for people to share their experiences regarding IM in working with volunteers. Based on their feedback, as well the experience of UNITeS staff and selected documents , this article has been prepared to help illustrate the advantages for using IM to work with volunteers. Please note that, when we say "IM" in this article, we mean a text-only exchange among two or more people that is via computer and the Internet, is private, and is live. IM is very similar to "chat." Both are synchronous communications, meaning users communicate with each other at exactly the same time. IM is generally used by just two people at once, however, and is private. A chat usually takes place in a virtual "room" online, often via a web site, and usually involves more than two people.

Extractions: Welcome to Kourts for Kids Kourts for Kids is a nonprofit organization of volunteers across America, who are working together to find ways to better protect abused children in the family courts. Many people play a role in the protection of abused children judges, attorneys, guardians ad litem, social workers, officers of the law, legislators, and advocates. However, sometimes children are not protected due to a lack of knowledge or misinformation, political pressure, or an overload of work. This broken link, which can occur from the time a child discloses abuse to the moment a judge renders a decision, can affect the child for the rest of his or her life. Dedicated to the protection of abused children, Kourts for Kids is going to bat for them by supporting an increase in awareness and education and promoting change within regions where protection can and should be improved.
