Extractions: Showing Off in This is the seventh year for my animated light display. The 1999 display took ten days to install. The display includes nearly 14,000 lights, many of which are hand-painted to achieve the desired color. The animation requires about 200 extension cords to connect the lights to the programmable logic controllers. This picture is a time lapse photo of the display. New for this year is a 1500 bulb millennium ball that descends from nearly 40 feet above the ground. The display also includes favorites such as the snow-skiing snowman and football and basketball sequences. The display is located at 1501 Glendale Avenue, Ames, Iowa. Happy Holidays! Extractions: Trick or Treat on Greek Street Halloween is a night known for ghosts and goblins. Many of the sororities and fraternities on Florida State Universitys campus opened their doors to help celebrate Halloween. While some of them went all out dressing up in scary costumes, setting up magic shows, and turning their houses into haunted domains, others decided just to paint up their faces and hand out candy. At the Delta Zeta house one of the sisters, dressed up as a princess in a white and pink lace dress, carried a wand in her hand and wore a crown on her head. At the Delta Delta Delta house, the sisters dressed up like magicians with black capes and tall black hats. At one house, Winnie the Pooh wore a furry yellowish brown costume with a red tummy that said Pooh in bright gold letters. This costume was nice enough to walk down Main Street at Disneyland. Most of the walkways up to the front doors were lined with sisters standing waiting to look at the kids costumes. One house really caught my eye. The Delta Delta Delta sorority house had something for everyone. On the front lawn, they set up a magicians stage and an apple-bobbing tub. When someone approached the house a sister would immediately greet him or her and tell them about the activities. They also had a haunted house set up just through the front door. Everyone was invited to go in, but I am not sure everyone came out. All the girls at the Zeta Tau Alpha house were dressed for the evening of fun. One girl was even dressed as Barbie. She just stood there very still with both of her arms slightly bent and all of her fingers pointed straight and together. She was tall and had blonde hair that was perfectly straight. She wore a pink shirt, white pants, and she was even holding a pink purse on her arm that said Barbie.
