Hugh Sharpe left on Monday for Alberta to help his cousins with the harvest. Mrs. Leslie Merritt, and children, of Toronto, are spending the week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Percy Merritt. George Young is spending a few days in Toronto. Billie Young spent the weekend in Kingston. The Pines ball team lost out to Deseronto in the playoffs. Now they can hang up their gloves for another year. John Elliot is attending the Ottawa Exhibition. Nov. 1957 - 4-H Club from the Christian Neighbourhood 4-H Club - The first three meetings of the "Sillsville Stitchers", the 4-H club, were held at the home of Mrs. D. Hough. Officers were elected as follows: President, Marion Grooms; Secretary, Sandra Garrison; Vice-President, Vibeke Peterson; Treasurer, Leona Mellow; Reporters, Erna Peterson and Aileen Stalker. The present project "Being Well Dressed and Well Groomed" comprises for the main part in the making of a slip or crinoline. Materials and patterns have been discussed, as well as topics on attractiveness, good grooming, hand and hair care. The Home Economist, Miss Sandra Thibaudeau, of Napanee attended the third meeting and demonstrated a manicure. A fee of 10 cents per member per meeting is being taken in this project to defray expenses. Lunch and a social time concludes each meeting. Sixteen girls are enrolled as members. I read the works of modern philosophers: Bertrand Russell, Alfreed North Whitehead, Friedrich Nietzsche, Edmund Husserl, Ludwig Wittengenstein and Godel, as well as the classics: Plato, Aristotle, Bacon, Hobbes, Descartes, Locke, Rousseau, Kant, Hegel and Emerson. Extracurricular activities centered on the peace movement, civil rights, environmental protests and work for the political campaigns of liberal candidates. Robert Rieke emerged as my principal mentor, and I continued to consult Fredrickson, Morrill, Perzel and Robbins. Through experimentation with psychoactive substances, I recognised both: the objective falsification of Cartesian duality and the relevance of shamanism to the history of science. Carlos Castaneda's work, which is frequently criticised by academic authorities who have misread and misintrpreted his writings, provided me with a series of important references. 'M' emerged as my principal informant in the field of parapsychology, who demonstrated objective evidence that the mind encompassed far more experience than the presupposed properties of the brain. I focused my research on the history and philosophy of science, while reading the works of: Newton, Darwin, Einstein, Freud and Heisenberg. I read the works of Alexander Koyre, Thomas Kuhn and Karl Popper, as well as Paul Feyerabend and Imre Lakatos. During this period, I began my readings of the vast alchemical corpus.

It was created using techniques detailed at glish.com/css/ Onlineblog.com glish.com Treasures of a Saxon King of Essex An archaeological excavation by the Museum of London Archaeology Service at Priory Crescent, Prittlewell, Essex in autumn 2003 unearthed a 7th century grave that is perhaps the most spectacular discovery of its kind made during the past 50 years - the grave is probably that of an Anglo-Saxon King of Essex . The range and combination of objects and how they were placed in the grave to create a setting for the dead king is unique. Weapons, equipment for feasting and personal possessions were found. The coffin contained items that had been placed on the body as part of the burial ritual. These included two small gold foil crosses, two gold coins and a gold belt buckle. The survival of the chamber and its contents is due to the mound above the grave collapsing into the open chamber as the roof timbers decayed. However, the high acidity of the sand filling the burial chamber has meant that no trace of a body survived. The objects in the grave such as the sword suggest it was almost certainly that of a man. The contents of the burial chamber, down to the 'king's' shoe buckles (above) were still in place. The finds will be on show in London and Southend for the next few weeks.
