The Department of Continuing and Vocational Education (CAVE) has been reorganized as a graduate-level standing committee degree program. Undergraduate majors in Family and Consumer Education and in Agriculture Education, previously housed in CAVE, have been relocated to other departments on campus. The Family and Consumer Education undergraduate major that leads to teacher certification is offered jointly by the School of Human Ecology and the School of Education. This option includes liberal studies requirements in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; specialized emphasis in family resources and consumer sciences areas; and a concentration in professional education, including a full semester of student teaching. See the School of Human Ecology section of this catalog for specific requirements. A program of study for secondary education (grades 6-12) certification in both agriculture and biology is offered by the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, in cooperation with the School of Education. Students are admitted to the School of Education for the last two years of their program, assuming necessary prerequisite courses are completed with the required grade-point average. Most students will need the equivalent of up to three years of course work in the agricultural and biological sciences before beginning their certification requirements. See the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences section in this catalog for specific requirements.
