New England Literacy Resource Center New England Literacy Resource Center works to strengthen adult literacy services Located in Barton, vermont, the Central Orleans Family education Center http://www.nelrc.org/practice/rural.html
Extractions: Sharon K. Parker, Adult Education and Literacy Coordinator The mission of the Central Orleans Family Education Center is to promote community wellbeing and family independence in a rural, low-income region not connected by public transportation. Established in 1991, NEKLS has offered a variety of adult and family literacy services throughout the remote counties of Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans in the Northeast corner of Vermont. Providing these services to those most in need has always been challenging due to the distance between communities and limited funding available to support services. The rationale for establishing the Central Orleans Family Education Center was that services needed to be provided to residents in a rural region in a way that would be cost effective for both the provider and recipient, while meeting the needs of the families from remote locations.
