The REVIEW Project: Primary Geography Index For Primary geography, teachers have recommended the following websites for At this level, teachers have recommended to us the following software for http://www.thereviewproject.org/primary/geo/pri_geo_index.htm
Extractions: Below, we list out some of the advantages that an interactive whiteboard can bring to the teaching of Geography at primary level. Some of these advantages may apply equally to using a data-projector with a computer. However, many teachers say that being able to control the software and carry out work at the interactive whiteboard itself helps pupils to visualise and remember concepts, processes and ideas. Some ideas are dependent on the type of software being used. Able to pre-prepare presentations to display on the board. These can include text, images, maps and links to other files, such as audio or visual files. Pictures are very powerful in Geography - showing pictures of people and places from other parts of the world can all help to explain a topic. Try using Google Images to find pictures for your topic. These pictures can be copied and pasted into PowerPoint or Word, but you can also take 'snapshots' into your whiteboard software. This allows you to select as much or as little of the picture as you want. Using pens or highlighters from your whiteboard software, you can write over the top of pictures, highlighting important features. In most whiteboard software, items can be selected and moved on screen. For example, pupils can select a word or a picture and move it across the board. The only way to achieve this with traditional methods is to blu-tac pieces of card to a board. Being able to move items on screen allows pupils to carry out certain tasks, such as labelling. In Geography, labelling maps, grouping concepts, such as advantages and disadvantages or matching items can all be carried out at the board.
