Extractions: Children will learn about different vehicles by creating their own transportation museum. By organizing the displays in their museum, they will also develop a better understanding of the educational value of museums. WHAT YOU NEED WHAT TO DO Ask children if they know what a museum is. For those who do not know, explain that a museum is a place where people can go to look at and learn about different things. Explain that there are different kinds of museums, such as, art museums, computer museums, science museums, and history museums. Encourage those children who have visited a museum to talk about their experience. What did they see? What did they learn? Were there things for them to touch? What did they like most about the museum? Explain to children that they are going to create their own transportation museum in the classroom. Brainstorm a list of different vehicles. Encourage children to think of all modes of transportation, including vehicles for land, air, sea, and space. Record their suggestions on a piece of chart paper. Some children may have toy cars, trains, planes, boats, or spaceships at home. Ask them to bring in one or two of these vehicles to display (temporarily) in the museum. You may want to use the Donor Chart to keep track of who brought in which vehicle. If some children don't have any vehicles that they can bring in for the museum, have them choose a vehicle to draw. Explain that their pictures can also be displayed in the museum.

An opportunity in 2001 led him on a journey to China and Inner Mongolia to see the last continental railroad run entirely with steam engines. Since then Barber joined up with a small group of British enthusiasts who began delving deeper into the back country of China in search of the few remaining villages and communities still reliant on steam engines. One of the Museum's newest exhibitions, "Trucks: Delivering the Goods in Maine" , is a tribute to the workhorses of yesteryear. A variety of horsedrawn and motor-powered vehicles highlight this exhibition. Their objective was to promote and establish a Isle of Man Transport Museum. Over the years which followed MTMG looked into possible sites for a Transport Museum. At a committee meeting the site of the disused Brickworks Office in Peel was suggested. This small building was the last of the once vast area of Brickworks buildings, which were cleared for the Peel Power Station. The Brickworks Office was in terrible disrepair and plans were to demolish it for two more House of Manannan car parking spots. Some years later after extensive work, the museum opened to the public in the spring of 2002. The two main rooms were fitted out with various displays and exhibits. It is the hope of the MTMG to start small and work their way up. The concept of a complete Transport Museum would require the backing of the Isle of Man Government and to convince them it is worth it, people have to want it.

Transportation is the most frequently encountered limiting factor in military logistics (the science of planning and executing the movement and support of forces). It provides the bridge over which the nation's resources reach our combat troops and is the key to victory which requires that "we get there first with the most." For almost 150 years, in each war from the American Revolution to World War II, The U.S. Army recognized the importance of transportation during war by forming a temporary management organization that was disbanded in peacetime. In 1950, the Transportation Corps that served so effectively during WWII was made a permanent branch of the U.S. Army. Since then, the Corps has exceeded the considerable accomplishments of its predecessors, teaming closely with civilian industry and transportation elements of the other services, in peace and war. Winston Link Museum reached a milestone today when its 10,000 th visitor entered its doors. At approximately 11:30 a.m., Bill Sales, of Washington, D.C., purchased his ticket, setting off a flurry of activity. Museum staff members took a photograph of Mr. Sales and presented him with a cache of items from the Museums gift shop. An admirer of Links work, Sales owns an original print of one of the photographers most famous photos: "Hotshot Eastbound at the Iager Drive-in." He had been looking forward to visiting the Museum since reading about it in Trains "We have been extremely pleased with attendance and expect it to pick up even more as we enter the summer travel season," said Kim Pulice, operating manager. "We have been astounded at the number of people who have heard about the Museum and we havent been open long enough to be listed in many tourism publications." More than 1,000 visitors showed up opening day despite sub-freezing temperatures and within the first 90 days of operation, total attendance had reached 6,500. Pulice says she feels confident that the Museum will reach its first-year attendance goal of 35,000.

Christopher won the 2004 Harley-Davidson Sportster at our annual Haywood County Toy Run on November 13, 2004. Christopher was very surprised when he received the enthusiastic phone call from Dale as his Uncle had purchased the ticket for him. Talk about being excited, Christopher and his wife will have many happy hours riding in Texas. Raffle ticket proceeds went to the funding of new display's here at the museum. Extractions: Fort Eustis. The military is no stranger to our area. In 1781, the early settlers here witnessed the surrender of the British troops at Yorktown. Since the Revolutionary War, the Hampton Roads has played an influential role in the history of the United States. In 1918, U. S. Government procurement of approximately 9,000 acres resulted in the creation of Camp Eustis, later designated to be Fort Eustis. The Transportation Corps was created in 1942, and in 1950 Fort Eustis became the U.S. Army Transportation Center and Fort Eustis. Today, Fort Eustis is the home of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps, and the Transportation Corps Regiment. The Army Transportation Museum, (a division of the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, DPTMSEC) is the only Museum in the United States devoted entirely to the history of military transportation. In 1987, the museum was rededicated as Besson Hall, in honor of General Frank S. Besson, the first four-star Transportation Corps general. Nearly 100 vehicles, amphibians, aircraft, rail equipment and experimental craft can be seen in the vehicle park and in the helicopter pavilion adjoining the museum.
