The Thai Sport Authority started to support pencak silat activitities since 1987, when Thai athletes participated in the SEA Games in Indonesia. Still in comparison with other self-defence sports, pencak silat remains underdeveloped, and PSAT still has to recruit pesilat from Muay Thai to staff the national team and enrol in national and international competitions. click to enlarge Fortunately, on February 2002 a student from Ramkamheang University became concerned with this situation, and together with two friends, Imam Mahdi bin Abdurahman and Mohammad Ibnu Rodi Wehamak, came to Oong Maryono's house to discuss the possible establishment of a pencak silat school in Bangkok. This plan got the support of the Student Club Ramkamheang University, an organization with 4000 members mostly from Southern Thailand. The Club decided to undertake regular pencak silat training sessions as part of its cultural and social program. PSAT also supported the establishment of the Thai Chapter of KPS Nusantara by organizing a seminar on pencak silat at the Calina Hotel Bangkok. 74 members attended the seminar and elected the board as follows:

In early historical times, a succession of tribal groups controlled what is now Thailand. The Mon and Khmer peoples accomplished powerful kingdoms that included large areas of the nation. They absorbed from contact with South Asian peoples religious, social, political, and cultural ideas and institutions that later determined the development of Thailand's culture and national identity. In the early decades of the twentieth century, Thailand's political system, armed forces, schools, and economy underwent drastic changes. Many Thai studied overseas, and a small, Western-educated elite with less orthodox ideas emerged. In 1932 a bloodless coup d'etat by military officers and civil servants ended the absolute monarchy and inaugurated Thailand's constitutional era. Progress toward a stable, democratic political system since that time, has been erratic. Politics has been controlled by rival military-bureaucratic cliques headed by powerful generals. These cliques have initiated repeated coups d'etat and have imposed prolonged times of martial law. Parliamentary institutions, as defined by Thailand's fourteen constitutions between 1932 and 1987, and competition among civilian politicians have generally been facades for military governments.

Located 450km N of Bangkok, Sukhothai was the Thai capital (or Siam, as it was known in the day) from the mid-13th century until mid-15th century. Covering 45 sq km of ruins, Sukhothai Historical Park is one of Thailand’s most celebrated sites, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sukhothai temple architecture is typified by lotus-bud stupas (pointed towers with various shaped bases), with many of the monuments having elephants inlayed in the stupa base. The shear number and beauty of the ruins is staggering. A bicycle provides the perfect way to explore and delve into this history-rich area. Around the middle of the 13th century, King Jayavarman VII brought in Mahayana Buddhism as the main religion in the Kingdom. With this change, Buddha images were enshrined instead of Hindu ones. Shortly after this monumental change, smaller kingdoms and communities in what is now Northern Thailand liberated themselves, came together and established the Sukhothai Kingdom.

    Extractions: It is difficult to determine the type of culture which existed in Thailand before the Christian era, since no written records or chronologies exist but archeological excavations in the area north of Nakorn Ratchasima indicate that there were people living here over 4000 years ago. However, by the 6th century AD thriving agricultural communities were established from as far north as Lamphun to Pattani in Southern Thailand . Theravada Buddhism was flourishing, and probably entered the region around the 2nd or 3rd centuries BC when Indian missionaries were said to have been sent to a land called "Suvarnabhumi". (An area comprising Burma, Central Thailand and Cambodia). The Dvaravati period, a loose collection of city states, centred around the Nakhon Pathom area, and lasted until the 11th century when it quickly declined under the political domination of invading Khmers. During the 12th century A.D. and is set on top of Phanom Rung Hill in Ta Pek in the Chaloem Phra Khiat District of Buri Ram province which is the location of a long extinct volcano. Phanom Rung is the original name and is mentioned in stone inscriptions excavated at the area. It is a religious site dedicated to the God Shiva, the supreme Hindu deity. It symbolises Mount Kailasa, the heavenly abode of Shiva. During the 13th century several Thai principalities in the Mekong valley united and took Haripunchai from the Mons and the Sukhothai area from the Khmers. The
