More than 300 grandparents attended the 20-year tradition pioneered by Myra Woodberry, a 2nd grade teacher at Hamilton Park. Grandparents are formally invited to visit the campus for a day centered around them, where they share, with students, their childhood experiences of school, read books to students, etc. Students read stories, recite poetry, present letters of appreciation they have written, etc. Grandparents receive "thank you" gifts - some handcrafted by students such as bookmarks. This is a day of education, family, food and fun! About Texas K-12 School-Community Partnership Grant Program This school-based program coordinates the development and institutionalization of service-learning as a teaching and learning method in Texas schools. Funding for the program comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service's Learn and Serve America initiative in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency and Region XIV Education Service Center in Abilene.
