Technology is part of the "free appropriate public education" guaranteed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Therefore it should be included in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) when necessary for them to realize the full benefits of their education and be prepared for a successful, independent life after public school graduation. The Texas Technology Access Project in collaboration with The Texas Assistive Technology Network, with leadership provided by Region IV Education Service Center, and The University of Texas at Austin, College of Education,Department of Special Education have developed a training module entitled "Consideration of Assistive Technology (AT) in the Individual Education Program (IEP)". The training module can be used by staff developers and educators. The module is an introduction to assistive technology consideration during the development of the IEP for educators, administrators, parents, and others involved in the development of IEPs for students with disabilities. The purpose of the contract according to David Mudarri, Ph.D., Indoor Environments Division of the Environmental Protection Agency, "[is] to promote EPA's indoor air quality guidance and encourage its use as the basis for managing indoor environmental quality risks." EEF's success in developing its own water intrusion and mold management program has positioned the organization to be a viable force in EPA's plans for managing indoor environmental quality risks. A combination of EPA's IAQ Building Education and Assessment Model (I-BEAM) software and EEF's water intrusion and mold management program are providing new guidance for any industry dealing with air quality issues. EEF will also develop a process to pilot test an EPA training module for the Integration of IAQ and Energy Efficiency in Well Managed Buildings, which is based on the 5-staged ENERGY STAR program and EEF will review EPA's IAQ Green Building Guidance.

By Teddi Beam-Conroy I had taught in elementary schools in Milwaukee, Phoenix, and Minneapolis before moving to Texas in 1993, so annual testing was nothing new. Each of those districts gave the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS); two also gave locally-mandated standardized tests. I was hired to teach fifth grade at a large, semi-urban elementary school and placed on a team with five other experienced teachers. At the beginning of the school year, my colleagues spoke often of TAAS (the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills). I responded as I had in previous years. I ignored it. Springtime was test time. It was only August and I had kids to teach. And then there was the TAAS. Kids failed. Lots of them. Both in reading and math. How had these children, the same children who had done so well on the ITBS, done so miserably on TAAS?
