Although the concept is interesting, and the execution impressive, a lack of clear instructions and a variety of spelling mistakes rendered the puzzle itself almost impenetrable to this reviewer. Early experience included participation as dancer and as choreographer at the Chamber Theatre in Tel-Aviv, and teaching posts at various institutes of education in Israel. While in London, she realized the need for a new system of movement notation that would allow her to write the dances she had composed. She started her work on notation there. In 1968 Eshkol founded the Movement Notation Society. A few years later she was appointed to set up a research centre for movement notation at the Faculty of Visual and Performing arts at Tel Aviv University. Her dances are actually experiments used to analyze movement. The activities of the Movement Notation Society and the Research Centre of Movement Notation are reflected in the publications published by the two institutions (see publication). These activities include the application of EWMN in different fields such as dance composition, graphic-kinetic art, animal behavior, neurophysiology and the study of other notation systems.

Extractions: PHILOSOPHY The school district acknowledges the responsibility to provide services that meet the needs of all students to develop their potential. Highly capable students have special needs, as a result of a wide range of abilities and talents. The school is committed to providing these students with a learning environment, flexible enough to allow diversity of options in order to maximize their potential. The school will provide a program that is qualitatively differentiated from the regular program, varied in depth, breadth, complexity and pace. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES PROGRAM GOAL The Gifted and Talented Program will provide in-service and training for staff members, parents, and community members. Objective A To provide a well thought out and planned system of on-going inservice training that takes into account the needs of those receiving the training. Guidelines: Collaborative teaching. Objective B To provide training for staff members so that skills are developed in interventions, adaptions, and strategies for gifted/high ability students. Guidelines: Particular attention should be given to: Use of cross-disciplinary teaching.

Math Forum: Gail Englert: Pattern Blocks For Middle School You can introduce (or extend) tessalations with pattern blocks (which shapes, You can explore geometry concepts like obtuse, right and acute angles. http://mathforum.org/t2t/faq/gail/blocks.html
Extractions: A previous teacher left a ton of pattern blocks in my middle school classroom. How can I use them with my 7th and 8th grade students? Gina Dear Gina, Pattern blocks are wonderful! I teach fifth grade, and I used them for all sorts of things. You can introduce (or extend) tessalations with pattern blocks (which shapes, will, and which will not... which need a "helper" shape in order to tessellate...) I use them quite a bit for fractions. If you chose one block to be the unit, the other blocks (most of them) can be refered to as fractional parts of that block, or multiples of that block. For example, if the red trapeziod is worth "one", then the yellow hexagon is worth two, and the green triangle is worth a third and so on. You can explore geometry concepts like obtuse, right and acute angles. You can put two blocks together at one side and see if they form a right, or a straight angle. You can see how many green triangles it takes to make an equilateral triangle that is twice as long on each side or three times as long, or four times as long.

It also includes a few dialogues exploring various mathematical themes. Here are some quotes I enjoyed: True science is restrictively the study of useless things. For the useful things will get studied without the aid of scientists. To employ rare minds on such work is like running a steam engine by burning diamonds. (C.S. Peirce) Logic is the art of going wrong with confidence. (Morris Kline) That student is best taught who is told the least. (R.L. Moore) Part of the charm of a book of quotations is the pleasure of coming across familiar favorite quotations and the other part is in encountering new quotations to add to one's collection of favorites. Every reader will of course have a different set for the first category, but I am sure the book will provide enough for everyone in both the categories. Undoubtedly a book to dip into again and again and to cherish. [Ramachandran Bharath] Greg N. Frederickson, a Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University, has written two books on dissections, both published by Cambridge University Press: one in 1997
