Tessalations This is a tesselation inspired by M.C. Escher. I started with a square and made slides and rotations. Those are called geometric transformations. http://tmsyn.wc.ask.com/r?t=an&s=hb&uid=24312681243126812&sid=343126

Geometry And Computer Teaching informal geometry works well on the computer because What does a360 polygon look like? Doing tessalations This site is great for showing how http://www.whitworth.edu/Academic/Department/Education/Classes/ED421_Michaelis/g
Extractions: Is the computer a sound tool for thinking? Manipualtives are simply tools for children to think with; the computer provides a different set of tools, but can benefit even young children as a way of seeing how objects relate spatially. The children will be able to keep copies of their explorations and compare earlier work with later work. This is not easy in a manipulatives-only environment. We truly don't "know" something unless it becomes part of our language system. The computer may actually facilitate the use of language in geometry. With manipulatives the student might simply reach over and rotate an object to make it fit with another piece; in the computer environment the student must decide on such commands as Rotate Left or Flip Horizonal, and thereby learn important geometric language concepts in an embedded context.

Each activity has different problems within them. There are also Test Previews included on the website. These previews consist of review questions of the different activities supplied on the page. There are also a couple of downloadable geometric games on the website, as well. Some of the activities on the web page deal with tessellations, symmetry, and polygons. I think this is a really good website. It offers different ideas for presenting various topics in geometry. Extractions: Project 4-3 A tessellation is a repeating pattern that completely fills a plane region with congruent figures that do not overlap. Use triangle tessellations to learn about the properties of triangles. Part A, Angles Inside the Triangle 1. Read through the explanations for creating two different types of tessellations with triangles at the Polygon tessellations Web site. a. Make a small triangle template from cardboard. You can choose the dimensions of the triangle (but don't make it equilateral). Using this template, create two tessellations, one using each of the methods described. b. Label the angles on your triangle template A B , and C . Pick a point in each of your tessellations where six triangle vertices meet. Label angles that meet at the point you've chosen with A, B, or C to indicate the angle of the template with which it corresponds.
